I guess I'm late to the discussion but yeah, C&C 3500 are typically going to be 4.10's, if it's a 3500HD (actual HD) they are 4.63 and 5.13 only, depending on gas or diesel. Dana 80 rear and 4x4's only aftermarket as mentioned. BTW those 4x4 3500HD's are REALLY TALL.

That'd be an issue for where I currently store the truck and camper, I basically rub the door seal on the AC cover every time I go in and out. I used to clear with no air in the bags, but that 2nd upper overload made a big difference. And I can only do a crew cab, so that cuts my selection down quite a bit. Where do commercial vehicles typically go when they die?

One local yard has quite a few HD’s. I actually bought one, but wanted the 454 5-speed from it. Had huge dreams of building a CC 4wd, but back then didn’t have a garage. Now that I have the garage, I have no time…..

Bought the '95 from the back lot at the wrecker builders. They would get an HD in there every now and then as people would buy a new chassis and have their wrecker bed swapped over. Wrecker beds are expensive, and *usually* outlast the chassis, so you'll find old chassis sitting around here and there. There really wasn't much wrong with the truck as I had mentioned earlier, I guess they just gave up on it when it got crashed.

Bought the '94 from a construction company that had given up on it after the 6.5td blew up the 2nd time, they pulled it with intention to rebuild or replace, but it sat on a pallet outside their shop and scrappers stole it. A fitting end to a boat anchor of an engine. They put the engineless truck for sale on CL. I think I paid $300 for it.

I'd be happy to just find a crew cab rolling chassis and swap Pearl's cab and sheet metal over.

I know that she is capable and I am capable. My concern is that if anything ever happened that someone could claim that it was because we were overloaded.

My 3500HD was a Verizon bucket truck, it has a monster rear torsion/sway bar in it to handle the bucket..

it's mounted to the top of the frame and it's attached via the top aux spring, and there is also a block between the main and aux leaf springs, basically locking them together. Makes for quite a stiff ride and almost zero sway.

Damn, that'd keep a 5000# camper from moving around.

That's the thing - once you make the truck so that the suspension actually still works + the flatbed, + the 4x4, everything is pretty high up in the air.

It will be tough to keep this low enough to handle well.

I'm fine with about a 33" tire. That is what I have on there now.
