I pop it open and start to look inside. Also I also jack up all 4 wheels and see what's spinning/not spinning. I see if your transfer case is also working properly since that's where the u joint connects to

Just thinking out loud here...
I assume it was not an issue prior to the installation of the lift kit.
Could the axle housing tube have been subject to being bent? I assume the axle slides in and bolts up as that everything is lined up.
Is the wheelbase measurement exactly the same center hub to center hub front to rear, LH and RH? Is the RH rear brake binding up (EM brake cable bound up on that side)?
Maybe pull one axle at a time the other side fully assembled and take a torque wrench to a lug nut and make a few complete revolutions of the wheel assembly noting the torque drag on each side as to pinpoint differences LH to RH (binding up).

Are the rear driveshaft flanged on both ends, as to remove temporarily and let the front shaft in 4H move the vehicle and see if the problem re-occurs?

Just throwing suggestions out there, thinking outside the box. Worked and raced drag cars for decades and always thought we'd see it all till the next thing cropped up. I used to over think it when it was usually the simplest and obvious problem.

Hope you can pinpoint the problem soon, and a simple repair.

What's it doing before it breaks? Binding? Squalling? Pulling? Parts usually provide warnings before they let go if you're paying attention.
I'm leaning toward a diff problem as well. Getting in the air to see what's going on would be helpful.

I put into 4wd and bang. I do t get 40 yards. Second time happened.
Looks to me like the CV shaft isn't long enough. Joint is pulled most of the way apart. When power is put through it, there isn't enough engagement--Bang.

This should be apparent based on how far the boot is stretched when the CV shaft is installed. A visual inspection should tell all.

Link doesn't work for me. If this is an aftermarket replacement CV axle that's a bit longer than stock...yeah, I bet that's what's needed.

Well, apart from removing the lift and returning to stock ride-height.

this is from a car but its what happens when a cv axle angle is too extreme and the cv axle does not fail but it most certainly wont snap and wheel bearing happened to take most of the hit. Fun fact

I’m doing the same install soon, same truck, same tires. Very curious if you’ve figured out what it was making the shaft pop like that. Let us know.

CV shafts spin at all times, in 2wd or 4x4. If the CV shaft itself was the issue, it would've been found MUCH earlier. The problem has to be in the diff, and only actualized by activating 4 wheel drive.

I realize this thread is nearly a year old, and O.P. hasn't been seen since February. So I doubt we'll ever get a resolution...
