New tires

Need to get some tires. Rig is a 97 K2500 4x4 Burban 7.4.
Its completely stock. I'm blessed with a west coast truck here in the rust belt of nw Ill and sw WIS.
I'm not opposed to a few turns on the torsion bars but... Not to much. Im a firm beleaver in it was engineered that way for a reason. If I ever lift this big girl it will be a S.A.S. ford KP from upper 80s to early 90s. I would utilize O.R.D.'s designe with the minimal lift of 3 inches (just the brackets). That's still a pipe dream anyway, SO.....stock as is.
I'd really enjoy 255/85r16s on my factory wheels. Cooper st Max's to be pacific. I'd love some real world feed back. How they do in real snow. How about hardpack snow/ice with a dash of sand on country roads. Maybe summer time loaded with a trailer. Or 80mph on the open hiway. Any thoughts, and PICS would be appreciated Thanks.

Missouri here, I was always a fan of the Michelin AT4’s. Ran them in different sizes on all the 2500’s I’ve owned, the last two 2014 and 2016 with the Duramax diesel had 20” wheels and the ‘14 had 20 x 9 aftermarket wheels with the simple offset torsion bar keys and shock extenders to level the truck. Maybe they were 275/60/20’s??? Can’t remember.

Awesome in the snow, as well as rain and muddy roads in the sandy Texas dirt on ranches we hunted on. I clocked 70,000 miles per year average with a enclosed trailer behind 70% of the time and would roll 80+ mph all the time. I could get 90,000 miles or a little more out of them even on the two I had a small tune on the Duramax. Not the cheapest but in the OH SH$T moments it’s money we’ll spent.

Looks like they are called AT2 now

If you want the best feedback, go to the consumer reviews on Tire Rack's website. Plug in your tire size, and rank order by ratings. You will see feedback from MANY real world users collectively racking up millions of miles, and will show detailed ratings of dry, wet, snow, tire wear, noise, etc... You may get a handful of opinions on this thread, but doesn't compare to the crowd-sourced ratings on a site like that. No affiliation, just a frequent buyer.

I ran 285/75/16 and 285/70/17s on various trucks. I don't remember the 16s, it was over 20 years ago but the 17s were on a CCSB, 285/70s on H2 rims. Tires were General Grabbers AT2, tires were used but in great shape. That truck was a tank. Back in 2017 got 3' of snow, and I was out driving around in it all nite. Not in 3' but in deep snow lol. I have 285/75/16s on my CCSB now but haven't really drivin it cause it needs a trans. But all trucks fit the tires fine, the one with 17s just barely rubbed the filler piece of the fender/bumper. My other truck has 305/70/16s, which is basically a 33x12.5, that is SAS'd with bout 3-4" of lift. That one has moved in months, maybe close to a year now lol. For snow, I'd go with the 255s, tall n skinny will do better in the snow.

That's the exact tire and size I run on my dually fronts. No complaints at 18k, which is kinda rare for my critical self. They hold the turns in 2wd in the snow /slop, so not much need to drop into 4wd... but we don't get enough snow to much matter. They will go on the rears also when the ones on there finally die. I am going with 35's on my 2500 burban (beach) so no direct visuals for you, but I'll take some pics of the ones on the dually and get them posted when I get down to the big computer in the cabin. They have a nice aggressive look.

Also, not sure of your gears, but I love the way these size tires (33") work with the 7.4, 4l80e, and 4.10's. Stock ecm. Shift points are spot on with plenty of highway passing balls leftover for up to 85 or so.

Edit: they also don't bulge the crown on the stock steelies like some other brands do in this size.

I have pirelli scorpion plus’ they nice an quiet on the road and have been good in snow and rain. Hankook atm’s are really good too both have white lettering option and I had them for 7-8yrs and only went bad due to age still had tons of tread left
