I am replacing freeze plug on the front of the block. While removing the power steering pulley which I have never done before the shaft came
Out with it still attached. Am I correct to assume I need a new pump and pulley now?

My son’s 98 did this a while ago, barely got started on the puller and it slid right out.

Clamp the pump shaft in a vise, use the puller and you can probably salvage the pulley.

PS pulley puller threads into the shaft and pushes against it to get the pulley off. It isn't possible to pull the shaft with the pulley done right. Use the right tool next time. I've done it a few times using the puller from OEM Tools available as a loaner from Autozone. Your PS pump is junk now though.
