Hey all,

I have a 96 sierra l31. I want to do an EGR delete, but want to tune it out. I can'/t seem to find a tuner near me that does old trucks like ours. Is it possible to swap a 98 ECM into my 96 so that I can use HP tuners to tune it out? HP tuners doesn't work on 96 trucks.

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

You could do the tuning yourself...

You can buy a copy of JET DST (Dynamic Spectrum Tuner) for around $400 if you shop around, FWIU disabling EGR should be a fairly easy thing to do yourself with that software. JET DST is the only tuning software I'm aware of that's compatible with the '96 and '97 black box PCMs in these trucks, I've been considering buying a copy to mess around with on my '97s. There are two different part numbers, you want 14005.

And you'll need a Windows laptop to run the software on.

A 98 PCM can run a 96-97 with a couple of wiring pins moved.

That being said get an 0411.

I actually run a newer DBC P59.

Thanks guys. L31max, are there any instructions on how to do this? I'm assuming the 0411 is the specific ecm.

The 0411 is a factory ecm....an "update" if you will. That's all I know. I don't really fool with anything new like that

Interesting, is it an update to the 96 ecm or is it updated in the sense that it's in a newer truck, like a 98? I'd like to get the tuner df2x4 mentioned, but I just spent all this money on the exhaust, haha.

The 12200411 PCMs were factory PCMs in several newer GM vehicles, think 2000+ stuff. They never came in this body style of truck, but you can re-pin all the harness connectors and swap one in. FWIU it's more widely supported by popular tuning software and is faster/more customizable than the factory black box PCMs in these trucks. There's a stickied thread on the subject at the top of this section, here's a link. The OP (Lextech) offers spreadsheets with all the info for the swap, you just have to message him with the details of your truck and what you're trying to do.

Personally I wouldn't worry about going this route unless you plan on doing some extensive modifications in the future.

They actually did come in that body style truck in 2001 and 2002. My 99 Tahoe has the PCM bracket out of a 2002 GMT400.

Was this a 3500HD only thing then? Or did other carryover GMT400 models get them as well?
