Hey guys. 1995 c2500 tbi5.7 nv4500 trans.
Looking for headers to replace a cracked exhaust manifold. Will be doing full exhaust.
Looking for a deep rumble. I don't want something that sounds like a crowd of super bowl fans clapping.
Should I go mid length? Shorties? Long tube?
Decent muffler to go with these headers?
Maybe 3 inch pipes? Bigger? Smaller?
I just want a something that sounds good and deep at idle, along with sounding good shifting a manual.
Anything else to add please add. I want my exhaust to be done CORRECTLY.
The truck will not have a converter after this. I'm not wasting money on a converter because there are no inspections and it'll probably end up stolen anyways

I went with a pair of the Dynomax Ultra Flow after seeing this guys build on another forum. He did all the exhaust himself. Full 3” all the way back to exit. I’m using Speed Engineering stuff for 99-2013 with a few simple mods. Mines not complete yet though, posted PN and link to what I have so far in my build thread. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah I “may” be using the Hedman 69840 long tube headers but I ran into this issue with one spark plug/primary tube I don’t like how close it is and whacking a set of ceramic coated headers for clearance doesn’t set well with me since they cost so much. Only about 1/8” clearance.

The Headman 69840 headers are designed for the early 4wd trucks that have the engine offset to the passenger side so may have clearance issues on the 2wd trucks.

My engine is def offset to passenger side and according to the Summit application guide/enter your make/model deal that’s what came. First set were beat up on delivery so returned those and they sent new ones. I will double check fitment application again thanks for the heads up I appreciate it!

Headers have been a pain, I had a set of the Super Competition units with 1 7/8” primaries on order for about 3-4 months and got money back. Ceramic coated ones were just under $1,000 ugh. I ran the math on the engines VE and I’m right on the line of 1 5/8 or 1 7/8 primaries being best. With the full 3” exhaust it would balance out the scavenging properties for my combo. Good thing it’s been a slow build and not done yet.

Back to the drawing board tomorrow lol.

I have the 69840 headers on my truck and are very happy with the fit. You will have to weld an O2 bung into them and reprogram the computer with a longer delay on reading the O2 sensor as it will now be twice the distance from the Throttle body.

Good to hear. I triple checked both Summit and Hedman and they are the correct ones. My issue is the plug wire so close to primary. I’m using the MSD Superconductor 8.5 under header wires for compatibility with the aftermarket EFI system. Using a Sniper Stealth 4150 style EFI so not tuning needed for factory ECM. It’s just there for converter lockup control.

Thanks for the follow up!

I use DEI products from their wire loom to heat shielding products if needed so very familiar with what you describe. I’ve gone through the pain of making aluminum tabs that mount to the block, then the MSD wire separators attach to the tabs keeping everything away from tubes and super clean looking, only to have this. Can’t run shorter non-resistor plugs as Holley system requires the resistors and it’s just good sense.

Last thing I want is a heat sock standing up waving after spending all the time n money for hiding wires/cleanest looking components for a tidy engine bay. Might buy and cut down a DEI plug wire heat shield that isn’t too bulky and tweak it to fit just the boot and use the metal type zip tie for header wrap.

Are stock cylinder heads plugs this close on that first passenger side tube using the 69840’s? First set of Edelbrock heads.
