Listed in the .pdf, attached.

@Schurkey thanks for the .pdf.

I read something within that .pdf which said:

3. PG Starter Shimming
Many times an upgrade to a PG design eliminates the need for starter shims. However, due to variations in engine block machining, the replacement PG starter may still require shimming.

Why is this???

I have read this before, and I remember it being mentioned as an attribute of the PMGR ACDelco 337-1022 which I bought in 2012 for my L31 Suburban.

Since @1998_K1500_Sub brought it up, I also gravitate to a Denso product, when given the opportunity. They are an honest-to-God OEM manufacturer instead of simply a repackager others' products, and their quality has always been second to none, in my experience. And though I didn't know it at the time of purchase, the 281-8102 is assembled in the USA.

Looks like they caved as well.

That's interesting, because I bought mine from the same listing on Amazon in February and it was marked "made in USA" on the box. Either it has changed (certainly possible) or the listing isn't correct.

Ok, I found my mistake. It's a 281-8102, not 8002. I also found the original box, and it's assembled in USA.

Edit: Previous posts have been edited to reflect the correct part number, to eliminate any confusion.

Maybe incorrectly listed or possibly transitioning to China. At least yours is.
Edit: You posted last post just as I did.

Still curious what everyone thinks of the Bosch SR8552N.

https://www.boschautoparts.com/p/100-new-starter-sr8552n-

On the expensive end of the spectrum for new closed nose OEM style PMGR starters for sure... But doesn't Bosch have a pretty good reputation regarding auto parts? I've been looking for info on where these are made but I can't find anything definitive. I know Bosch has manufacturing facilities all over the place (including China) so there's really no telling even though they're based in Germany.

Their sensors and fuel injectors have always been trouble free in my experience.
