Alright so now I've set the tdc about 4 times now still wont fire over. It fires but it sounds like the timing is late.

I did move the oil pump shaft forward one section so now it's not backfiring as bad now

So this is where the distributor sits right now at zero TDC I missed what thinger2 said yesterday. Makes sense to me. It's not exactly pointing at the number one cylinder looks like it's pointing at the number 3. Gonna rotate the oil pump again see if it helps

Okay so I got it to start finally but it still runs like crap have to keep my foot on the gas again. I was just wondering if anyone knew if the distributor was still off and which way I had to rotate it so it doesn't keep stalling I will include a picture of the distributor as well. It has new plugs and wires. I did gap those to 0.035 I'm just wondering if the gap might be off a little as well.

You got it to run. Therefore, you (finally?) selected the CORRECT "TDC" which of course is TDC-Compression, not TDC-Exhaust.

WHAT IS THE INITIAL TIMING as verified with a timing light, with the EST wire disconnected?

Yes! I finally got to run. I manually timed it over to zero on the compression stroke (must've had it on the exhaust but I didn't fill the distributor 180 out maybe I did with out realizing) in the one picture with the cap off and rotor pointing to the coil. Put the cap back on.

In the second picture it fired over after some "convincing" from the gas. I didn't get a chance to check the timing yet as I could not keep it running without it stalling and I did not want to rotate the distributor without it running and having to repeat the process all over again.

But it runs none the less!!!!!!!!! Even though it sounds like a misfire. My guess is the timing is severely retarded or it's over advanced I'm not sure. the new distributor when it dropped in it was ahead of the old one. Gonna let the battery charge until 3 and I'll get back to yall.

UPDATE I finally got her to run and idle by herself. But it sounds like it's got a miss still. I don't know what's going now it ran fine enough before with no miss.but now I'm stumped again. I'm thinking maybe an O2 sensor, exhaust smells like gas as of it where running rich.I want to get it timed in first before I mess with anything else to see what's up.

Update probably the last one for a while.
So I finally timed the distributor out.it was like 20 degrees BTDC so I timed it back out to zer. kinda wanted to die when I did that it but it idled fine in park. quit missing when I drove it around for a while. Runs great now. Probably should get some brake clean and clean the spark plugs or run some sea foam through it.

Plugs looked a little black from cranking on it for 2 days straight.

The only problem I'm having is if it sits stationary it will almost die at just letting the tranny roll the truck by itself.

In gear it will idle about 400-300 rpm then it will jump back up to 650 some times.

I understand that there's a torque bit idle screw some where but I couldn't find it. I don't got anymore time to **** with it right now. If anyone knows what's up help will be appreciated I will be on here about 6:00 pm to check thanks.

it looks like a low quality cap where the towers arent secured right or in the right "Spot" relative to , say, the OEM cap. I had a HEI cap I put on my 1980 from MSI or pertronix and the damn cap was made so poorly that the rotor collided into 3 or so and ruined the cap, rotor quick. I found some used OEM ones on my engines in the shed and cleaned up the terminals and worked great. (Replacement parts even from the good manufactures suck a lot)

your plugs may just be so fouled that you need to clean or replace them for your engine to run well. that soot and carbon resists making a spark which could be your running issue.
Also did you time your engine per the necessary procedure for TBI? From what you said it sounds like you just turned your distributor while you had a light on it. TBI requires taking the computer out of the equation, setting, then putting it back in play
