Well I guess I’m going to hell cause I ain’t ever even pulled an engine let alone built one. But I’m sure with a little research and some hands on experience from my 6.0 I’d still mess it up :badidea:

Youre good lol. When you eventually do pull an engine and build it, youll do great. and youll enjoy it. and youll probably make some kind of "oops" but I cant be the one to tell you what it is
For me, oops happen to work out to be... hmm.. heres an example. Doing an oil pan gasket on my old car. Oil has been drained forever. But the pan is stuck. So I center myself on it under the car, and trying to work it loose.
Turns out the pan had about 2 quarts of oil that dont come out with the drain bolt... by design.. and it flows out and onto me while under the car lol....

now imagine if I tried building that engine

I did learn you can fit 12 gallons of kerosene in the crankcase of that engine tho

Hahahaha that’s priceless… can’t say I’ve done is got oil all through my hair cause I didn’t remove the oil pan from under the truck before I went to install the new filter. 5 washes later and there was still brown coming out of my precious head banging hair!

So yea guys though the platform has changed (for the better I would say) the plan/idea thanks to the advice from all of you remains the same. Hoping I can score me an lq4 with accessories/pcm and harness. I’m not sure if it’s smart financially right now but I am a dreamer so I was wondering what people think of Holley stand-alone setups? As in ecm/pcm with base tune pre programmed and harness like in terminator x max? My instincts tell me it’s a waste of money and not the learning experience I’m looking for so I’m probably going to do it the cheap and diy way for now but may decide to upgrade later. Just want to get some expert opinions on what they think of a setup like that and custom digital dash setup and some extra temp sensors tapped in

I really like the Terminator and the tuning software. It has some things you can't do with an 0411. I think it's a good value even though the price is high.

But the easiest thing on your wallet is to get a complete engine from your junkyard with all accessories, PCM and harness. On a '97 you could do the 0411 swap and retain all your factory dash and what not. Also, where I live if the vehicle came with OBDII it needs to function in order to get it inspected and on the road legally.

I agree. Stock PCM works good.
But for playing the holley stuff is a lot of fun. I install a few Holleys a week and tune them. The Dominator is the best one. Ive got on in my 2002 Silverado with a turbo 5.3 and the Dominator even controls the rear airbags.

I’ll have to look into the legalities of that here as I live in a California like part of Canada politically. They did eventually scrap the emissions testing and have made some aspects of vehicle ownership cheaper in the last few years under ford government (the infamous crack smoking mayor of Toronto’s brother) but some of the safety inspection requirements are still a little far fetched so I wouldn’t doubt if that’s one of them. What is involved in an 0411 pcm swap? I’ve seen a lot of conversation about it but don’t really understand it too much though I haven’t looked into it much but if it runs my stock gauges properly until I consider something like a Holley stand alone I’m all for it!

Check LT1swap.com

He has the pinouts you need. Basically you just swap 10-12 pins from your old harness to the new PCM, cut out everything you don't need from the old house and marry the old and new harnesses together. I also have what I did on our 96 in my Mad Customs build thread.
