Hey guys. Figured I would post here due to the non gmt 400 nature of this post.
2002 chevrolet silverado 1500. 4.8 v8 with the 4l60e. It is a 2wd truck.
She slips on the 2-3 shift. And that tells me it's probably time for a new trans.
I'm not complaining. It's got 252,000 hard miles on it. I added a bottle of lucas stop slip to help get me by until I decide to rebuild the current one, or buy a new or reman unit.
So the question is, what do I do? Rebuild my current trans or get a unit?
If so, what's a reputable manufacturer for a complete unit? I will be doing the replacement myself.

Hopefully there is someone local to you that can recommend a rebuilder, no reason to by a remanned if you have a local guy that you can talk to and have it built your way. The only reason to get another unit is because you know of a cheap known good replacement or if your outer case is damaged.

If you're up for a trip, Precision Transmission in Amarillo, TX is the only one I would recommend (not knowing any others), his videos speak to the quality of his work.

I agree, find someone local. If you have issues, the truck can be looked at instead of troubleshooting over the phone.

Like Tpass said though, there are also reputable builders you can order from. I know of one in Weatherford TX (Greg at Phoenix Transmissions), Biloxi MS, (Brett Arceneaux) and Columbia, TN (Jason ???, drawing a blank at moment, and was at his shop 2 weeks ago!) that all are stand up guys.

Make sure to find one that knows what to look for, not just throw clutches and steels in it.

Edit: I see you are in Mississippi, I can give you Bret’s contact if you are in the southern part of the state or Jason’s if you are in the northern part
