I'm replacing my front sway bar bushings on my 91 2wd and noticed the passenger's side has a spacer bracket on the frame where the sway bar bracket mounts to. The driver's side does not have this spacer and the sway bar bracket mounts directly to the frame. Just want to know if this is normal or if the original owner did something.

Interesting. I omitted this bracket on my 91 frame. But, there's also a strange difference from the driver's frame horn to the passenger that this bracket may solve. After seeing this picture above, I will refurbish that bracket and reinstall. There's gotta be a reason for it.

What made you omit it in the first place? It looks to me that because of difference in frame sides, that it aligns sway bar correctly. Just guessing, mines 4WD.

The bolts on those sway bar brackets strip out frequently. The block/spacer was probably put in because of that and the bracket then bolted to it.

Well, a bit of ignorance, a bit of overthinking, and a bit of confusion I guess.

My truck is a 97. The frame I'm building is a 91. I noticed the differences in the front passenger frame horn early on when I was trying to determine if I could replace the two-bolt idler on the 91 frame with the three-bolt idler off the 97 frame (you can't, the frame is way different).

The 97 frame doesn't have that bracket so I wrongly assumed it was useless until I saw this angle in the pic above. It'll be going back in shortly.

I was almost as ignorant, over thinking, and confused as you! I was going to remove the bracket too thinking it was incorrectly installed by the prior owner. I just find it really odd that it is the design. I would think the frame rails would be square which only leads me to believe the bracket correct a small difference in the geometry of the lower control arms, BUT later models use the same LCAs without the bracket so i'll just let it be and leave things alone.
