Also, I realize I was a little off on the whole basis of this thread. I forgot the gmt400s had two boxes, the one I der the hood on the driver side, the actual ECU. As well as the silver box under the passenger side dash. The ECU on this truck is already gone, the silver box under the dash is the one I've been pulling at, this truck used to be an auto, and the trans harness and a lot of the engine wiring runs to it. That silver box can be removed and still retain functionality of the HVAC, gauges, lights, ect correct? Forgot that this isn't like the TBI setup where the entire ECU is there in the spot under the pass side dash

It is like the TBI truck, there is no computer under the hood.

Yep I just realized I'm mistaking those for a later truck, the abs module is what's missing from under the hood. Someone took the entire abs system and ripped it out so I will simply be bypassing it

ABS in these trucks sucks, you're not missing anything.

The diesels are different. I want to say the engine harness plugged into it as opposed to the gassers where a firewall harness plugs into it.

Yep, the 6.5s were DBW for sure as stated.

I wasn't very clear in articulating my answer, the DBC boxes are easy to wire up, and can be made to work with the factory stalk.

I suppose it would be cool but I have no interest in extra complications, cruise control makes me anxious for whatever reason, doesn't feel like I have control of the truck so I never use it
