Sorry for a dumb question but I got a stock height 98 k2500 and I’m trying to figure out if I can clear 285/75/16 with out needing a lift of any kind or if there’s any other suggestions for sizes to fill the wheel well nicely. It’s got 265/70/16 on it now

Ive had many trucks with 285s and they clear fine. Had one with 285/70/17 (which is touch bigger than a 285/75/16) and barely rubbed the fender extension by the bumper. Wheel offset has a lot to do with it too....

I have 285/75-16's on my 2001 Duramax.
I had to upgrade the Torque keys so that when the plow was on the tires did not get a rub sometimes when turning close. Other than that they work great.
I run 265/75-16's on the 94 k2500 Suburban.
Never a problem and work great.
With the lousy roads and highways around here it's a good thing to have more rubber between the wheel and road surface.

I had 285s on my 98 k1500 for years before lifting it. I had 33x12.50 too but I think that was too much tire for little to no actual performance gain. As long as you don't have crazy wide wheels it should be just fine. Mine were 16x8 with 5" backspace, didn't even come close to rubbing. Here's a picture from way back when.

They'll fit, but you may or may not rub the mud flaps with 285s, on my 98 it didn't bother me much since it only rubbed when backing up with sharp turning on 285s.

With the offset on my front rims have would that make it rub more? I’m not sure the offset on the rim

With my x8 wheels w/ 5" backspace which would be about 12.5-ish offset, the very edge of the tread was flush with the front fenders and the backs were still fully inside the fender. Yours poke out a little more than that so it might rub a tad on the mud flap but nothing serious I wouldn't think.

Another option is the 255/85

265/70 are 30x10.5
265/75 are 31.5x10.5
255/85 are 33x10
285/75 are 33x11+

255/85 has no rubbing at full crank.
