Life can be cruel sometimes. My throw out bearing developed a hell of a leak the Friday before we came to Bolivar. So we had to take the subbie. Then all of the surf side was loaded with seaweed. We still fished our pants out and caught what we came after. I broke on a pretty decent Bull Shark and mama caught her PB gar. So not a waste. I figure I am gonna try the Novak external slave and see how that works. At least I will be able to rebuild it on the side of the road if need be. We will be back in Galveston around October so we will try the truck out then.

Past couple weeks have been interesting. I ordered everything to swap to an external slave hoping that I could switch from an internal to an external. I knew that the newer SMS went to a larger input bearing but didn’t realize that the retainer housing was a 1/2 inch larger than the old style. Sent everything back and went to summit and got another Ram internal throw out bearing. I made a .050 shim to push the bell housing back to fall within spec for the throw out bear. All that went well and got it buttoned back together then the very bad word of a transmission started leaking from the input retainer. It still has to come back out and I guess I will address that.
I was able to get the 4 core aluminum radiator installed and it fit really well. Got all of that topped up and was gonna give it a go because I haven’t driven it in a month and the hydro boost developed a leak internally and is bypassing. The pedal goes straight to the floor when started.
So I went to get it out of the garage and clean everything up and put mamas ride back in and blew a power steering line. So I have a few more things to fix up and should be good for another bit.

Started ordering everything to put together a 5.3
I have a real clean 92 short wide I’m thinking of getting going or I might throw it in the brown turd. Parts are all the usual rings rods mains clean heads and lap valves. MLS gaskets high lift low ish duration. LS7 springs and summit drop in .600 lift springs.
All the parts for the long block are ordered and the rest I will figure out after I get accessories on it. There will be more to come for sure.

Hate days like this in the garage!

The sloppy stage 2 I ordered went back order and so did the cam bearing tool. I ordered “The Best Cam” from Matt at Sloppy Mechanics and the cam bearing tool from eBay both have already arrived. I have everything for the long block but need to finish polishing the crank and heads.

I did find this Gem on Craigslist. I couldn’t pass it up. I got everything stripped down already and need to figure a few things out. I kept everything harness wise except what was behind the cluster. From what I can tell it is a LY6 with 0821 “LS3” type heads. The 6L90e is rebuilt and fluid is real nice. It had hydro boost and a full float 14 bolt with dual piston disc brakes and a locker also.

From what I understand the 6Ls are extremely expensive to integrate. I would love to keep it but may move it. I have the harness cooler lines everything for the trans. I am keeping the 6.0 for the brown turd and will put the 5.3 into my 92. I will let the trans go pretty cheap if anyone needs it. I will post into the classifieds but PM if you are interested. DFW metro area.

Alright y’all I’m back at it.
Wife and I have been busy with life. Taking fishing trips and helping family rebuild stuff from one of them there tornados in SE Oklahoma. Everyone’s is all good just having to patch some stuff up.
I rebuilt the short block 5.3 and got it sold and kept everything else. Then got the brown turd sorted and running full tilt. Good as ever. Then took mama down south for a little fishing. She caught her PB Red. It was awesome.

This was the culprit for my hydro boost issue. I am not very smart I’m telling ya. I had a blockage that was my doing. I run around crazy because it had air in the line but it was a blockage caused by oversight. Feed through for the return line. I pinched it with the new radiator and didn’t realize it. Hopefully someone will learn from my mistake. I have almost everything to get the LY6 installed.
I bit the bullet after looking at everything to use the factory E38 ecu and said he’ll with it and bought a terminator X. I have to get a throttle body an intake motor mounts and a fuel pump. Everything else is laying in the closet. I’m pretty stoked I had to think everything through and see what rout I wanted to go but finally decided to use the LY6 for the brown turd and do something different with the red truck. Hopefully I can get it running on the stand after the holiday and see what we are working with.
