More like the second one. The first, just sounded like a gunshot, to me. The car at the gas station sounded poppy and burbly like a race car decelartaing through a turn, but he was only driving through the gas station parking lot. It was probably stright piped, too. At first, I assumed it was a rusted out wreck that needed a muffler, but the sound was so obvious it had to be tuned that way.

If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong but, it was something they started to do with the early turbo rally cars by running a fuel injector into the exhaust system so that when they were decelerating it would keep the turbo spinning faster so when they got back on the throttle there was less turbo lag.

I'm no body work guy, but it looks like it only needs (at most) a hood and grille insert. Maybe a VW badge. Good deal! These are pretty good on gas, and I haven't heard anything bad about them.
Hood, DS headlamp, Grille. All of which I have sourced in body color already.
I've always had a soft spot for all things vee dub. A 16v Jetta GLI was highly aspirational for me coming out of high school. Never owned one though.
This one is a 20v all bone stock.
I know nothing other than the fact VW are pretty badass cars, huge aftermarket. I drove a straight piped TDI once and it was cool.
This is only the 3rd 1.8T car I've owned. The rest have been TDI's, 4.2L v8 audi, and a pair of 2.7L twin turbo audis

What you're describing is anti-lag, and it's achieved by adding a shìt ton of fuel and retarding the timing so much that combustion essentially takes place in the exhaust manifold. This keeps the turbo spooled, or helps it spool quicker on launch.

The car in the second video is tuned to burble on the overrun.

The first is caused by shifting with the 2step active. It's ridiculously loud in person. Sounds like a pair of 12 gauges with the flames to match.
The second car is tuned to pop and bang on the overrun.
Neither car has cats, both have mufflers.

Scanned the car tonight to check the myriad of lights on the dash,

ABS/ESC(Traction control):
LF wheel speed sensor inop
RR wheel speed sensor inop

Air Bag:
Possible module
Possible defective DS bag

Erased codes to see if they will come back

CEL:
Catalyst below threshold
SAI pump low signal

All in all to eliminate almost all the dash lights it will be ~$600 total in parts. Including a Tune, SAI/Evap delete and a 3" turbo back exhaust.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but couldn't remember exactly how it was achieved since you need oxygen as well as fuel to get combustion in the exhaust.

Did a few little things to the car tonight. 1st was remove the DS door panels to see if there was the switch for the gas door release in it. There was, it was in peices but it just snaps together, so fixed that.

The previous owner thought that instead of finding out what the lights on the dash were on for that it was a better idea to put duct tape over them(see below)

So I used a razor blade, some goo gone and then cleaned the lens and it looks so much better. The ABS, ESC, Brake and CEL are all still on. But as outlined in a previous post I can fix them pretty easy.

I am adding to the list of things to do maintenance and mod wise. I need to remember to add a boost gauge and wideband. Which I may just do the innovate Motorsports PSB-1 which is a boost gauge and Wideband in one gauge.

Can't keep a good tuner down! When ya gonna swap an LS in it?
Lol, this actually won't be getting much as far as "power adders". Will get a stage 2 tune(+60hp, 20lbs of boost, sai delete, catless tune and a rear o2 tune out), 3" turbo back exhaust and a drop in panel filter. Besides that maintenance, and suspension will be the focus.
