Well, I can tell you all right now, I'm finding many possible candidates on car-part.com Nothing with an MT, though. The way I understand it, is the computer is what matters for the AT vs MT, not the engine, itself. Yeah, there could be no pilot bearing bore in the crankshaft hub, but for some reason I doubt that that would be an issue.

It varies by state. Here in Illinois it's $155 plus applicable taxes. Scrap hovers around $250/ton lately, so a Jeep like his would bring +/- $350

I would hope no one would have to pay taxes on a vehicle because they changed their name. That would be insane. $155 is bad enough. In MI we have sales tax, but someone changing their last name isn't a sale.

Well, it's done. The Jeep is officially junked. Good riddance. Only cost us the $50 tow to get it there. The Camry that the Wife's friend brought over to be fixed is done and out of the way.

All that's stopping me now from completing my RCSB is FINDING AN ENGINE.

OK dumb question: Wasn't there a one off year for these engines that nothing else is compatible with? Was it 95?
Yes. It's a bast(a)rd year: new style interior and front end, TBI motor, one year only trans and PCM
Thanks for that. The search continues.
There is nothing odd ball about a 1995 TBI engine vs 87-94 TBI engine. The only thing you have to worry about is if it is a 1995 4L60E as it is a 1 year only transmission. Won't get into details here as this ian't as big of a deal as most say, but I am pretty sure OP is running a manual transmissions so this should be a non-issue. 1995 is still OBD1 on these trucks.

if you are staying with TBI you will need to change to 5.7L injectors, the 4.3L used the same throttle body as the 5.0/5.7L. You will also need to change your calibration in the ECU or upgrade to the 94/95 PCM (you will need a custom chip if you go this route).

So how much did you get for it?

I really don't want to go messing with the friggen PCM, other than swapping it to match the engine that I do end up buying. Why would I need to swap to the 5.7L injectors? I'm going 4.3L to 5.7L here.

Staying with TBI... as opposed to what? EFI? Maybe that's more reliable, and it sounds nice as a concept... but I need this truck on the road and inspected before the first snowfall. I went through this crap not so long ago with the 05 Silverado I used to have, except it was frame issues that time. I was in my backyard... welding in 30° weather and spraying Rustoleum with my fingertips freezing, only to have the transmission crap out on me that next summer. Fvcking 4L60E JUNK.

So how much did you get for it?

Normally, I don't mention money in posts unless I'm complaining about the unreal cost of things. In this case.... I believe that revealing the amount is necessary for closure purposes. We got a mere $615 for it. Paid $6000 for it as an "R" title, almost 12 years ago. The ultra-funny part, however, is that the corrupt junkyard which we bought many parts from to fix that Jeep up over the years, were just sold back to that same yard LOL!

The only thing stopping us from calling a wrecker to come get it is the fact that her (the Wife) maiden name is still on the title (so it doesn't match her license). That could cause a problem at the junkyard.

In PA, that's not something simple. Too many laws.
Wild Guess: Title, plus photocopy of marriage license + photo copy of her driver's license = Okee-dokee. MAYBE you'd need certified copy of marriage license.

But sounds like we're way past that, now.

As for the engine issue, I'd be looking for a salvage yard that guarantees their engines--but you'll need to pay attention to how long the warranty is, versus how long it'd take you to get it installed, running, and driveable.

So get the old lump out, fix whatever suspension/drivetrain/brake/steering problems you may find, clean the engine bay, and arrange for whatever upgrade parts you'd need BEFORE you buy the engine.

I didn't say there was anything odd about the motor....I said it was a 1 year transmission, and the only year of a TBI motor in the facelifted truck.

that's fine, pretty sure OP didn't understand what you posted. he has a manual transmission, 1 year only automatics are irrelevant. any TBI engine 87-95 will work with little effort for what he is trying to do.
