Title change costs between a third and half the value of a scrap vehicle around here.

^^YES

I'm going to give the local yard a call in the morning and see what the easiest way to take care of this will be. I've heard that the yard will come get it, but then there's no payout. What's the point of that? That Jeep has aluminum rims, the catalytic converters are still there (all 4 of them), and it's a running engine (not like that matters for payout, but still...)

IN THE MEANTIME, I'm continuing my search for a replacement 5.7L for the RCSB. It doesn't necessarily have to be crate motor, as I might be able to get a known good motor from a yard that pulls their own parts.

Wouldn't there be a risk of buying a engine with an unknown problem, then? Like ok say the mook running the place turns the key and it runs, but not great. Lists it as a cheap, running engine, and some sap (like me) dishes out hard earned cash. Now I'm back in the same boat. That's why I was originally looking at crate engines. My gawd, long blocks are expensive.

You may be able to trade the Jeep for a motor.
Also, some salvage places will warranty stuff they sell.

I would hope that's only if scrap is very low. My cousin scrapped a couple of vehicles and got good money for them and they picked them up.

Wow, I'm not sure about changing something on a title, but in MI getting a title is like $15.
It varies by state. Here in Illinois it's $155 plus applicable taxes. Scrap hovers around $250/ton lately, so a Jeep like his would bring +/- $350

OK dumb question: Wasn't there a one off year for these engines that nothing else is compatible with? Was it 95?
