Steering wheel snap-ring?

Replaced my ignition switch but forgot to reinstall the snap-ring on the steering column under the 21mm bolt. Will that be ok, is it a safety issue or should I pull steering wheel off again and reinstall? Thanks for the

I take it you don't have one of these?
Call your parts store and see if they have one to lend out. Otherwise they're not much to buy. Very helpful tool. Worth to have around if you do DIY repairs:

Yeah, you need it to hold down the plastic cover/plate.

I used a steering wheel/harmonic balancer tool. I like this concept though! Thanks for your response!

In the context of my quote, absolutely. Pretty sure it retains the lock ring and all the parts behind it (the 'gear' looking piece under your clockspring) so it being an "extra" part after re-assembly is not a good thing. The large nut at the top of the whole stack is surely holding everything from flying off, but my best guess is that the parts underneath the clockspring will damage it over time.
