PS:. At the moment, I'm avoiding a flat battery by pulling the fuse (which also takes out the mirror adjustment). If I can't get it working properly, I'll just put an override switch into the power supply

some have barn doors and some have tailgates but both should have the door switch for the lights. I had a 94 Burb a long time ago that had the tailgate but I dont remember where the stitches were located, maybe up top right of the glass as that's where its located on the barn doors. man I miss my tailgate but the wife likes the barn doors.

Are they led bulbs? I had a problem like this when I upgraded my interior lights to led and they didn't turn off. I then bought a good brand of leds and it fixed the problem. id say pull the bulbs out no matter if its leds or halogen and if the trucks locks then it could just be a bulb issue.

Does your Tahoe have an aftermarket alarm?
If so, check the fuses in the alarm harness and the alarm connections to the OEM wiring since most of the aftermarket alarms will turn on the interior lights when you hit the unlock button.
A bad alarm wiring fuse or connection will leave the interior lights on...

There's no evidence of an aftermarket alarm and I removed all the horrible interior LEDs and refitted incandescent bulbs.

With all the LEDs removed, it still won't lock. I haven't yet tried it with all the incandescent bulbs removed as well

The tailgate switch is operated by the glass part of the hatch, via a plunger on the right rear pillar, just above the metal drop down tailgate. I'll have another go at it with the plunger disconnected and see it that works

The door switches work by providing a ground, not power. The power goes to the various lights but they don't light up until a door switch provides ground. So somewhere along the line to the door switch OR the door switch itself, ground is being provided somehow. Trace the line from the switch to wherever it goes. Most likely it is frayed or chaffed somewhere and grounding out. Good Luck.

If there is anything aftermarket, remove all the wires and repair any oem wire damage caused by splices , then diagnos.
