Yeah man, right here. Except I am expat, living on the west coast of Canada. Trucks, say what?!

Nice rig btw. How much did the export fees hurt? I've looked, but my wallet caught fire just thinking about it.

My setup is detailed in the build thread in my sig if your interested. Its mostly up to date. Slow build as $ (& time!!) allow but lots of fun. Its all new to me, so I'm taking the learning by doing approach

G'day, I bought the truck around 8 years ago but it has been in NZ since 1995. It is my first American pick up so has been a real learning experience, it had a new WOF when I got it but I soon learned it was a dodgy one. I have been slowely upgrading what I can but it is my daily driver (work truck) so I have to do work on it in small bites that can be started and finished over a weekend. I have read your build thread and love that you get to go camping in some really great places. I have been setting mine up to do tent camping trips on the weekends with my wife. Ideally going down the less traveled paths. I have been thinking about doing a build thread so I have to get my pictures together and get on to it.

The old WOF, no such thing here. Which is good AND bad in many ways. How much work did it take to meet their standards?

Yours is a K1500 it looks like? You running a 350? 95, last year of the TBI and funky, one off year, PCM, wiring business I've read. Any support back in NZ for these things or are you using No.8 wire?!

Always enjoy reading other people's builds. Look forward to seeing it on here soon!

Mine is a 1988 K1500 with the 350 TBI and 4l60. It took quite a bit as it is a keeper it was a worthwhile investment. All of the steering, including box, brakes suspension got replaced first off and then I started adding things second battery and winch etc to go camping in remote areas. It had 3.43:1 diffs with 33" tires that really put a load on the transmission so I had the diffs rebuilt with 4.11:1 gearing and added an Eaton E-Lockers along with stronger axles in the rear. It may have started out as an older truck but it just keeps getting younger as I replace stuff. There is some support down here but at a price, I bring most of the small stuff in through Rock Auto but the bigger stuff, like the canopy, I get through a local importer who brings in containers from the USA. It's funny how you forget all of the work you have done on a vehicle until someone asks and you start to think back. I enjoy making custom parts that look factory but make it different from the rest.

Sounds like a great truck. I've always wondered how the bros back home fix their rigs, import fees have got to hurt. Good on you for saving another old Gmt400!

Your power train is the same as mine. Nice and simple, it ain't a rocket ship but super reliable I find.

Go start that build thread ;)
