So I've done searches both here and google as well as asked on multiple pages on facebook and have yet to find the answers to a few of the questions I have regarding the 4l80 swap into my 88 c3500. I'll be going from a th400 to the 80. I already have the U.S. Shifts controller I need on order as well as the transmission ready to go in. What I'm needing to know is do I need the neutral safety switch, black box, on the shift arm? Also, are there any modifications I need to make to the shift lever to make it work correctly? Lastly, at least for the moment, has anyone ran AN lines for the cooler vs the hard lines to aid in installation?

There are adapters to use AN lines. If trans is late model, it takes a special fitting with extension. Shift shaft I believe can be either, as 88 should have a neutral switch on the column. Shift lever has indents in the columns that will not allow to reach all the shifter positions. Either swap or don't use 1st. Edit: Your shift controller might care about the range switch on the transmission.

you should be able to bend your th400 hardlines to work.I would get a column from a truck with OD, I THINK 4l60e and 4l80e detents are the same, but i could be wrong.... i would also get the shift linkage from a 88-94 that came with a 4L80E. Use the neutral safety switch that is already on the column.
