My truck is 1998 gmc 1500 4x4 with a current setup of 6in rc lift and 3in body lift with Reallift torsion bar drop brackets delete kit. Tire and rim setup is 40x15.50 and 24x14. So far I done 4.88 gears in the rear and the engine and trans are stock.
I’m slowly getting parts together for my sas build. I got my hands on a 1 ton Ford Dana 60 king pin high pinion front diff with 36.5 springs centers. Looking for a 14 bolt rear in to swap the rear right now. First thing I’m trying to get a good understanding of is choosing the length of the front springs. Which is better 47” vs. 52” springs. I’m thinking of going with a 6in lift springs with ORD bracket kit to give me around 9in of lift plus my 3in body I have now.

52s will give a better ride, but might settle too much. Might have to add some leaves. But I had 48s ride good too. Also, might need to run spacers with the 60, anything over 38s will rub the springs at full lock.

It's been so long i honestly don't remember. I never did get to use 52s, didn't have a welder back then. I haven't driven my SAS'd yet, other than the driveway. But with the 47s that are in it, it was roughly than holy hell. But, they are HDs, I removed the lower spring, lowered it some, and now the springs actually move. IFS was OK, pretty much rode like an IFS truck.

The only thing I would check before going to 52s is body roll. A few square body guys don’t care for 52s on the street because they are pretty soft.
Possibly keep a sway bar to alleviate that. No doubt they flex extremely well but at a cost on the street. I’m sure you will need driveshafts front and rear be sure to account for that and measure before.

Stock 52s add roughly 4” over stock coupled with most SAS kits gives 7-8 inches over stock. I was very pleased with the ORD kit front and rear. The rear I used a shackle flip and zero rate.

New up date on the sas build, nothing much has change. We just now getting done with harvest this year and I will get back on the sas project. So far I have found some 8 lug rims and bald 35s to just give me something to put with the front and rear axles on. There 8 lugs and holding air for $350 that’s I need for right now. I will be buying a new set of rims and tire later after I finished the build.
