So I am going to swap a built 5.3 into my 1997 extended cab and Would like to swap the P0411 as well. I know this has been done plenty of times but what I find everywhere is leaving the black box installed and piggy backing a P0411 ecm to run the LS engine while the Blackbox runs the truck side of things. I understand you could put a van tune on the p0411 to run the truck side but could you modify a van tune to run a LS engine? I have HP tuners for my fbody already and have some experience using it. Ide like to make the complete swap as clean as possible and if I could have just the one ecm mounted in the stock location that would be great. Anyone done this already? Thanks

I don't think I've ever seen an LS swap in a '96+ truck where someone left the original black box PCM in place for anything... I was under the impression that pretty much everyone doing an LS/0411 swap in a '96+ eliminated the black box entirely.

Have you seen @Lextech's thread? If you contact him with your truck info and what you're trying to do he can send you all the necessary info to re-pin your existing wiring harness to work with the 0411. I believe he can provide a base tune on an 0411 PCM as well. He sent me the pinout for swapping an LQ4/4L80E with an 0411 into my '97 C1500 some years back, I still haven't started the swap.

You would have to split wiring loom and splice newer engine harness with older body harness. 411 ecu very straight forward and works with ac, 4wd, abs inputs.

You don't piggyback the black box no matter what swap you are doing. The popular 0411 swap actually replaces the black box.

The ones I have done the black box goes away. I think it was Street and Performancd that used to say the piggyback setup was the way to do it. Completely hack way of doing it. The P01 or P59 handles every function of the black box provided you get the correct unit. Some P59s lack analog ac input needed for the OBS ac system.

I have contacted Lextech and got a pinout diagram but I didn't tell him I was doing a LS and 4l80 swap at that time. As far as I can tell though it's the same deal. I just need to change out my harness from what feedback I've gotten so far. My big question is, when I put the van tune on the p0411 to run the truck side, it will be looking for 5.7 vortec sensor inputs rather than 5.3 LS vortec inputs. For example the 5.7 has a single ignition coil while the LS has 8 coils. I would need to modify the van tune to run the LS engine, is that doable with HP tuners.

You would need to segment swap to make it happen. Find a 5.3L using the same operating system and swap the engine segments. I did that when my buddy put a 6.0L in his truck. It already had an 0411 I had tuned. I swapped the tune from a 5.7L/4L60E to a 6.0L/4L80E.

Personally I would go bigger than a 5.3L in truck but that is me.
