After installing an amp, 4 high mod, dual batteries, and auxillary lighting, my voltage with the headlights on is down to 11.7. When looking for a better alternator, ive come across many claimed 250 amp alternators on Ebay. Does anyone know if these are real or are they a scam?

I recommend Powermaster alternators. You can get them @ Summitracing.com
They use a WYE winding instead of a Delta winding for better charging@ idle speeds.
They come with a dyno tag for proof of operation and it's always a little higher than what the advertised output states

I put on on the Wife's Astro around 180,000 miles ago and it's still doing it's thing!
Buy once, cry once.

I have had a Napa 200a AD244 on my 1997 since about 2013. It was the only affordible 100% new AD244 I could find at the time. The voltage is with everything on in the van for the most part. HVAC blowers on high, 4 hi headlight mod, interior lighting, picture tube tv, and the dual electric fans on high speed. The Tahoe fans alone drew 40 amps. I have a 2nd auxiliary battery on the frame and when my travel trailer is connected the van charges dual 6v golf cart house batteries in series on the nose of the travel trailer that I generally try to prevent from dropping below half charge. I have since ditched the dual cooling fans with a single 16" electric puller and a mechanical fan for improved cooling and every exterior incadescent bulb for LEDs.

Years later the AD244 is still kicking. Now wears a March overdrive pulley that works in conjunction with the 25% crank underdrive. The crank pulley is 6" and the alternator is 2.375". Gives a 2.526 overdrive. At idle my alternator turns around 2,000 rpm where it already makes over 100 amps.

ebay alternators are generally a scam ... Mechman alternators are one of the few alternator upgrade shops I'd recommend (I run 2 of their alternators and love them) - Mechman advertises themselves as higher output alternators for race vehicles but the higher end car audio competition people use them almost exclusively because they are just that good

Brand X alts. hands down

I have them on 4 different vehicles .. 3 Chevy’s , 1 Toyota, including my 97. I use 1 on a hunting/ off-road truck- 2 other vehicles for stereos, and 1 as a replacement but will be used eventually to power lights/winch/ mild stereo/ 110 converter..

They range from 150-500+ Amps at low rpm and can get them to charge 15+volts if needed. Not saying there aren’t other good companies by any means , but your eBay/Amazon alt will probably never see close to those numbers unless you keep it under 100 degrees and rev to 6k

Delco 220 amps, it's a hairpin and comes with a PWM voltage regulator, Brand X makes a controller.
No controller it'll default to 13.something volts, or set it to what you want with the controller (max is 15.5ish)

Edit: Forgot to add - for reference - it fits my GM 10236997 alternator bracket
