For that large of an area, I would recommend you brush it. A quart is like $15 and will work just fine. 2 coats, no problem. No overspray.

You are going to need a lot of spray bombs!

The DFT (dry film thickness) is going to be more consistent and thicker on the brushed on paint also.

Just a thought.

I did my CJ7 floor pan with POR-15 and a brush. It lays real flat and you would never know it was brushed on. I covered it with bed liner.

One and a half cans. I also swapped out the main harness. There's a lot of wiring repair to do, but far less than if I'd stuck with the rat-chewed harness. There's no telling where all the rats chewed on the harness. At least the Pull-A-Part rats make nice, clean cuts.

A fellow churchgoer mentioned to me yesterday that he has a 454 block bored .060" over that he's no longer planning to use. For fuel economy I'd rather stick with a 350, but... I asked him how much he wants for it. If it's a really good deal I'll buy it, but otherwise I'm sticking with the 350.

It wasn't hot yesterday but it was muggy as can be. I cut the heat shield mat to stick under the roof of Roscoe but I still need to perform the rust repair before I stick it in place. I'll make it a point to find my coworker this weekend and try to plan out purchasing his cab and engine.

I played around with my vintage-style cheap rebuild engine that came out of WCJr. I got the 8" balancer switched out with a 6.5", cut a new timing mark in the 6.5" balancer, set it at TDC, and stabbed the distributor. I can't get the mufflers on because the ram horn manifolds are too close to the engine mount clamshells. I'll get the hoist on it later, pull the clamshells and trim them, and make some minor mods to the run stand. At that point it should be ready to fire.

I wasn't in church last weekend because of Reserve duty, but with any luck I'll see him Sunday morning. I did just buy another dirt cheap 350, but I'm considering just doing a nice rebuild and flipping it.

A Faceplace Marketbook 4L80E has been acquired from a truck that had a 6.5 diesel with a cracked block. I was seriously considering a 6L80 swap like @97Centurion did, but I keep seeing people with 6L80s commenting they wish they had the reliability of a 4L80. Also, I got the 4L80 for $400. The fluid looks decent-ish and he swore it was under a camper shell until last week, so it shouldn't have more than a teaspoon of water in the fluid. :eek:

So, school me on 4L80s. I know it's an earlier version because it has the trans cooler fittings closer together and no top bolt hole. Is the wiring receptacle the earlier or later version? I don't see a bolt-down for the plug, so I'm thinking it's a '94-96 transmission, and that's what he claimed. The receptacle is loose, so the pan needs to come off so I can reattach whatever retaining ring has come loose.

It needs a torque converter, a dipstick, a pan and filter, rear seal, and depending on the condition of the internal wiring harness I may buy a new harness from RockAuto. Anything else I should replace out-of-hand?

Yup, that's like the one I rebuilt on my 99 5.3/4L80e swap. I recognize the short shift shaft little bracket. Mine was a 94 build, which matched to what the guy told me that his truck was a 95.

There's a tag on the passenger side (an aluminum tag with year and code stamped on it.) It's near those 2 pins near the rear of the case. Those 2 pins are the anchors for the reverse band on the inside.

I don't see a yoke on it...

The harness on those goes all way to like 02 or something like that.

The pan for this generation is the "shallow pan". I've got a picture somewhere comparing the 2 pans. Later one are called "deep pans." 1997 was the year break for that. Filter needs to match the pan, as they are different between the early vs late.

So you are going to run it with a TBI? I'd say that would be a good combination.
