How hard should it be to hand-thread a prevailing torque nut onto a stud?

This is for reusing stock 1998 350 rocker arm nuts that have been on there since new. I can get them on 1/4 to barely 1/2 turn and that’s about it without a ratchet. Is that normal or should I get new ones?

I’m not familiar with how they should feel.

If it's the tapered nut, the taper goes down and it's a lock nut so there will be drag while tightening it down.

they're supposed to be like that, so they don't back off after you adjust the lash. if they're easy to thread on they'll back off after you set the lash and you'll have lifter tick ......

For 88-95, is there an updated or modern AC Compressor on the market that people have gone to? I haven’t had good luck with the two AC Delco I’ve replaced mine with. They just don’t seem to be efficient, very cold, or mainly last longer than a few seasons.

I'm "assuming" your system is 134a. I've seen some that were R12. I think my son's 89 is R12. Anyway, there is a Sanden compressor that is a direct replacement, from my understanding. I've never done it. It may be a retrofit kit that happens to fit the 73-87 pre-GMT400 trucks that works on the earlier 88-94 models. A little internet sleuthing should figure it out. This may get you started.

Yeah man it's 134a. Our '92 still has the old R12 but it probably hasn't work since the 90's. So yeah Sanden was really the only name I was seeing, and you had to get the custom kit or something like that. I'll look into for sure, thanks. If anyone else has done this please feel free to chime in or DM!

The compressor in my 90 was frozen when I bought the truck. I wound up with a 134 conversion "kit" from advance auto. New compressor, o-rings, oil, orifice tube and drier. It blows nice cold air. I did do a double flush to makes sure everything was squeaky clean. First with lacquer thinner forced by compressed air then with a regular A/C flush to clean out any leftover lacquer thinner.

While doing some searching on Rockauto, I found that they sell a knock sensor for a automatic tranny and one for a manual trans. What is the difference? My motor came from a truck with a auto trans, and my truck has a MG5 manual. I wonder can this cause issues? Also, what about the ESC module? Is that different as well?
