Been watching marketplace for the last few months for a core Gen6 454 and today was my lucky day (maybe) Picked it up for $300. Looks like a good deal.
Guy said it was making a ticking noise sometimes. He said the truck was getting a diesel swap and he just wanted it gone. OK.
Let's take it apart!

So everything is coming apart pretty easy. No broken stripped bolts yet. Still has stock injectors that im sure are probably not very good. All good though as my 5 0 injectors are less than a year old.

The intake and exhaust ports look pretty good.

When i took the oil pan off #8 rod was sure enough loose. Spun rod bearing. You can see it next to the #3 main bearing. With the spun bearing it allowed the crankshaft to scrape the bottom of the piston.
The spot on the cylinder wall is the only mark i see on all 8 holes. Other than that there is 0 ridge at the top.
Friday ill be taking the block to the machine shop for what ever it needs then i have a few decisions to make.

So at this point if the bores clean up with a good hone job I'll just keep it standard bore.
The crank will need turned for sure. Depending on what they wanna charge it might be worth buying a new Scat crank from summit. Around $330
Get some new pistons and have the rods reconditioned.
Cam and lifters look good to me but i have never messed with roller lifters/cam so im not sure.
If i need to have it bored and the crank turned I'm almost thinking of making it a 496ci engine as i don't think the cost is much more but ill need some feed back on that as i know nothing about doing it other than i read it's easy to do.

Fantastic price! Any idea how many miles are on it? Mine is almost to 300K miles.

I'm not sure what I'm looking at in the picture of the cylinder and headgasket, when you reference the ticking source.... I haven't spent enough time inside engines to know.

Here is what the spark plugs look like.

I'm pretty sure those plugs aren't installed right
