No issue re gearing the truck is going to get a sas soon with a Dana 44 front problem is it’s gonna end up with up with 35’s minimum because where I go ends up being very remote on some of these ranches here in south texas

Absolutely! Combined with a 383 that makes a good bit more HP and TQ than an LT8 gas 6.6L it gets up and goes. I did a full 1-ton swap as well. I am making about 520 tq at 3,500 and 510 hp at 5,700. Drives like stock until the gas pedal goes down. I have still pulled down 17-18 mpg running 75 on the highway with a 5.13 gear. Towing the TT in the picture I get about 12-13 mpg at 65.

I am doing a 383 also cost of the conversion is higher for LS. Not enough benefit. These are trucks you really more wanting torque. I am having mine remanufactured as a 383 for 3k. Probably a little less if I was not having it shipped back.

Can confirm: doing an LS swap or major engine upgrades on a work truck takes time away from profit. Started one last year about this time because my work was slow, about three weeks into it I started getting work, and more work, and stayed busy. “Project truck” gets worked on late at night or early mornings so there’s that… making money comes first.

As I said earlier if you want the LS swap ego stoke, won't get it from me. Even though I do have a LS 6.0L swap running. For towing I pick my 97 with the 383 or my 99 Tahoe with a cammed 8.1L.
I'm looking at a 383 turnkey crate engine for my 94 k2500 with a 5 spd manual tranny, 4:10 gears and 8 lug axles. The 5.7 tbi runs great but is lacking in the towing department. Since you've done this, would you recommend it for my drivetrain?

Assuming you have a NV4500 absolutely. In normal driving without the trailer you will find yourself launching your truck in 2nd gear.

Same here and I have it in a 1 ton
Does it have boost? My buddy has 275/60R20s on his 5.3L Avalanche, it has a 4L60E and 3.73s, headers, e-fans and it has been tuned and the only way it will even break a tire loose is to throw it around a corner at WOT. It pulls ok once the revs get up but my old 350 stock when it had the 4L60E and 3.42s with stock height tires would have left it in the dust. My sister had a 2003 4x4 Tahoe with the L59 DBC and even after tuning it, was nothing special. I personally never have found the 5.3L anything but doggy unless you rev it to the moon. My neighbor at the shop had a LM7 in his 02 Suburban. Towing a 14 ft enclosed tandem axle cargo trailer with a couple of motorcycles inside it would double downshift to 2nd on any kind of grade. I towed his trailer with the van when we took some dirt bikes out to play around on. The old 350 with the 395 cam and tri-y headers pulled that trailer 70 mph down the highway in overdrive with a 3.73 gear. It would pull most grades without even unlocking the converter. The 350 was making 330 rwtq at 2,900 running on E85 at the time. As I said torque is what these trucks need when being used as a truck and a 5.3 lacks it without boost.

No boost 5.3 tuned, efans, headers is all. Will do a mild cam sometime in the future, 4L80e 2200-2400 stall converter 4.10 gears on 225/75r16
0-20mph out the hole is not a dog I'd like a little more torque down low. Never got to drive that truck with the 5.7 but did drive another that was equivalent and the 5.3 runs circles around the 5.7.

As for breaking tire loose how long you want it too burn truck has no issue there. Does better then my 454 dually can.

And I've dealt with one like your issue my wife has an 04 Tahoe suppose to be 5.3 never looked but I think it's a 4.8 cause it's a complete dog after tune, fans. Won't even break loose in the rain.

But anyways I didn't say any of that to make this a pissing contest just my honest experience. And I see it like this is people got what they got and like what they like

I get that you hate LS motors, (you've made that abundantly clear across many threads) but I'm calling bullshìt on this. My NBS daily has a bone stock 5.3 and it'll spin the 22's on dry pavement in a straight line.
