My 88 3/4 ton Sub had a 350 and no resonator box.

And yes having the cowl open when stopped does give the hot air somewhere to go but it reduces the net airflow through the rad at higher speeds.

Yup, but like I said cooling at speed is never an issue unless you have something wrong, and that's a different story. Idling in traffic, working in the woods with the winch, stuff like that is where cooling gets harder and having a vent helps.

Or I just hit home depot for some vents lmao.

Vents in the middle (front/back) of the hood are in a low-pressure area. They extract air from the engine compartment.

A "cowl-hood" has the open area in a high-pressure zone, which is why the OEMs used cowl hoods (and put the air intake for the HVAC system there) in the first place.

I'm not sure how else to explain this. When you're not moving, where does the pressure you're talking about come from?

I agree with 351FUN, my old big block Nova with the big ol L88 hood had a huge opening at the back next to the windshield. When you were cruising town the windshield got dang hot from the air pushing through. At speed I'm not sure as the big old 2 1/8" Hooker sidepipe headers heated the floor, firewall and the driver and cooked you thoroughly, LOL! Haha, I'm a wimp these days. If it's hot out I don't even drive the Nova till it cools down. Never had A/C in the old days and don't remember thinking I needed it. Man I'm gettin old! Sorry for the hijack.
