I've been cruising through Amboy (IL) recently and this 1995 GMC C2500 showed up on a dealer lot.

I stopped today and took some pictures. The VIN is 1GTGC29K4SE502544 which decodes to a 5.7L C2500. The AC condenser looks new, the muffer and tail pipes look new. The sills on the bed have newly-installed black plastic "garnish" covers on them, which leads me to believe the actual sills are banged-up. The bed has seen some use but isn't atrocious. Interior is burgundy cloth.

The odo said 157,912. Wheels and caps look really good, there must be a story there. The hang tag on the mirror says "Utah truck, very nice $6,900".

There's some rust along the bottom of the passenger's side door. Headlights are bit cloudy but not yellowed, a body-shop buff would IMHO bring them back to life.

I didn't look under the hood.

It looks like a fun truck, but my wife would kill me if I brought home another vehicle.

I've never understood the point behind any truck being 2WD, especially a 3/4 ton. This one is no different.

Because not everyone has a want or need for a 4wd truck. My Dad who drives his every day year round yes his '13 is a 4wd. My '95 that will be driven when it's not ****** weather out, no I didn't/don't need a 4wd truck. But my '11 Suburban is 4wd because it gets driven year round.

People living in the south(south of northern Kentucky) really don't have a use for 4wd trucks either, but that is more from a weather aspect. When the Wife and I move to TN I will no longer own anything 4wd unless it is a strictly offroad rig.

Some people would never own a truck without 4WD, and some wonder why anyone would ever bother.

I use the 4WD on the Suburban only a few times a year, at my buddy's cabin in northern WI (Tomahawk). The cabin lies 0.7mi down an unmaintained logging road. Mud isn't a problem because the soil is very sandy, it's the snow, and the truck takes an entirely different character w/ 4WD in snow, it moves with grace and purpose. In 2WD it's a fish out of water.

But, barring that logging road, a 2x4 Suburban would be a fine vehicle for me.

1995 was a good year for white paint. I have had several people ask me if mine was repainted, it wasn't.
The 4X4 craze is a relatively "new" thing IMO. Last 30 years or so. I grew up in southern Saskatchewan and the vast majority of trucks in the 70s and 80s were 2WD. Mostly RCLB. 2WD offers increase payload, nicer ride, tighter steering, lower entry height, fewer parts to replace.
My 95 is 4x4. My dad's famous quote at the time was, "with 4WD, you can just go in a little further before you get stuck".
