1997 Chevrolet K1500 Z71 my truck came with the electric 4x4 but not auto I have noticed they only come very late GMT 400 on the tahoes and youkons but out of curiosity could I swap my switch for an auto I’m not thinking it would work that way

Two different animals. Why change? You have a switch to activate electrically 4x4 engagement. Do you know what the auto selection does on the Tahoe ?

1997 is a one year only. 1998 and 1999 have the auto switch. I own all 3. There are numerous differences in the trucks. Be happy my 2 1997's are great.

Did you ever try and swap the switch? I was also wondering if putting the 4x4 switch with auto would work

Did you ever try and swap the switch? I was also wondering if putting the 4x4 switch with auto would work

if i'm not mistaken that's a different transfer case altogether, 246c. yall have a 241c. please correct me if i'm wrong, had no idea gmt400s could get the auto function

Old post but I’ll answer. The push button (not Autocrap) was an option. I had a 96 Yukon that had it. I had a 97 2500HD with a big block that had it. The 2 I have now, one is lever and other is button. The push button is an electronic shift 241, aka 243. The Autocrap is a 246, nothing really shared or the same between the two. IMO, the Autocrap is for people that dont know how to drive in the snow…
