Well my 2 yr old cs130d Powermaster crapped out, and the Delco one before that also lasted right at 2 years.
Now I am thinking of just going to an Ad230 like 01/02 vans with L31s had as there should be 0 problems with fitting the bracket or ac lines. Anybody just use the 230?

AD230 should be the 130amp alt, you can also look at the AD237 that's the 145amp alt. The AD244 is a 160amp alt but it's getting hard to find them in 4pin style anymore as the alts and parts for them(from Delco) have long been discontinued. The updated design everyone is switching to is the Denso with 4pin seen on a few Cadillac models from around 03/04 era..... I'll look for a pic of one for reference so you can know what case design and features to keep a lookout for.

Was looking to upgrade my alternator and stumbled upon this thread. Just posting some info I found in-regards to the different options for the AD244 140amp Delphi units. These all have the Oval style single wire plug that match my 96 Tahoe. You can save some money depending on which part number you search. 15279852 was the cheapest I saw on amazon.

Hey guys, interesting thread.
I did read all 19 pages, but to verify:
I want to go to an AD244 alternator on my 1994 K1500 5.7.
Questions:
1. Will bracket mods be necessary or not??
2. Will my 1994 plug be correct, or do I need a different plug, or pin movement??
3. My present belt is a high quality new one. Can it be used by changing pulleys from my old alternator to the new one??
Note: I have already done the "Big 3" mod on this truck.
As an aside, I also would like to do this on my 1987 Corvette. Any comments there??

You can change pulleys to make your belt fit. I snagged every size pulley i could find at the junkyard years ago. You may need to change more than 1 though. i had 3 Ad244 alts on my 5.7 and i ran 2 of them when i 1st LS swapped my truck. I used to build my own alternators when i was into car audio. its fairly cheap and easy to get 270amps out of an ad244. The voltage regulator dictates whether you need to hook up that plug or not. A self exciting regulator will work without the plug. For anyone interested in some of my useless information....ok back to the topic, There are letters on each plug that designate what each wire does. and a google search of "ad244 pinout" will show pinout. Connect the "excite"wire to a switched 12v source (make sure its one that turns off when the key is turned off or it will drain the battery). You may need to remove the steel brace that connects to the back of the current alternator and bolts to the exhaust manifold. (If you even have that one). You can buy multiple different cases for the ad244 with different "clocking" or mounting positions for whatever vehicle you want as long as its 3 phase.
