It just pulls off. There might be a slight difference on the main sprocket as some seem to have couple of degree difference for the cam compared to factory setup.
Yeah, my reluctor ring doesn't move at all. And my grandad looked at it and said that he wouldn't worry about the small amount of play in the chain. The sprockets look perfect, and the chain doesn't look bad. Only a 1/4" of movement in the chain. So I think I'm just gonna leave it for now

So, the big trip I was hauling ass to get ready for, has been postponed for the foreseeable future. So now I can slow down and do things at a reasonable pace, so that I can make sure not to screw stuff up.

Small update! Tonight I managed to score off of flea-bay the correct Kent Moore tools to properly remove the reluctor ring so that I can change the timing set. Kent Moore J-41371 reluctor ring remover and the J-8433-1 puller bar. Once I have that done, I can progress to installing the new Cloyes timing set, and finally install the new timing cover and oil pan. Then install the new oil cooler lines.

Considering I can't get this one off, and what I've found seems to indicate that I do, I ordered one.

Is that for the reluctor or the lower timing gear? The gear gets on there good and tight.
It's for the reluctor ring. I've tried several times to get it off without buying special tools, all to no avail. And I'm terrified of damaging it. So I bought the tool. I can rent the crank gear tool from work.

So, finally an update on this girl. Timing chain is replaced. Not a ton of difference in slack, but it is a small amount. So that's one thing taken care of. Also got the new timing cover on and bolted down. Tomorrow I'm hoping to get the oil pan and harmonic balancer installed. And new knock sensors. Already got one in. Don't feel like messing with the distributor currently. So I'm just gonna slap a new cap and rotor on for now, and keep truckin.
