A couple of months ago a random road rock got mine. It started as a small crack on the right side but grew rapidly. Since this was not an insurance item i checked around for price. Safelight website told me over 400 to replace. Local independent wanted half that. Set appointment, took an hour and perfect new looking job. Mine is a '93. I suspect you either got the wrong windshield or the worst install in history. Keep after it!

I can't find the "first design" glass anywhere, and it looks like the (molded rubber sides are part of the glass) has been discontinued. LMC is out of stock, and no back orders allowed. My local independent says he can't get it either.

Will the "second design" (seals are separate for the sides) work in a "first design" equiped pick up?? (mine is an 89). My man is looking into it. This sucks beyond words if the "first design" is no longer available.

UPDATE:

The first design glass is no longer available by anyone, anywhere. That CT8892T is the "second design" glass with the crap rubber seal (like a door seal). It will "work" for the 88-02
trucks, but like everyone says, they suck. The "second design" glass was introduced in 1993 from the factory. The idea was that you could replace the side seals as they wore out.
The "first design" had hard rubber molded into the glass "frame" that was unreplaceable if it cracked. Essentially they are "hidden" drip rails.

Rats. I have to have mine done soon in my 1996 1500. Good thread to warn of dangers, but now I dread the coming potential hassle.
I'm having my glass installed at home on jun 16th. Ill take pics and post here. After looking at the glass a little closer, it looks as if they added the rubber seal to be compatible with later models, but can easily be removed. In other words, it's both first design, and second design glass.

Damn this is not good to hear since I’ve needed mine replaced for the past 11yrs now!! Lol but I just keep holding off because of this happening or dealing with them coming out time after time without the right glass! I want factory glass back in it and don’t mind paying a lil extra for the real thing! If they’re available? But I’d definitely get that handled before you end up getting water in places it shouldn’t be let alone the noise factor!!

That looks familiar! My Burb's windshield finally cracked all the way across; I wanted to get it replaced after getting my state inspection and registration sticker, but Safelite wouldn't do it because they said the mounting surfaces were grungy. They don't want the liability if it leaks after they worked on it....
So I'll have to get a body shop or an indie glass shop to look at it. Been too busy with other things....
