So I'm finally gonna tear into grandads truck and fix this Cyl 2 missfire.

Here is the Skinny. My grandad has had the truck for hte last 8 years...after he passed he left it to me.

97 Silverado 5.0 2wd

Cyl 2 has missfire...was random missifre.

I changed plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
Still cyl 2 missfire.

The plug is getting contamination on it just dirty overall.

Did a compression test and all cyl are between 155-160.

I'm thinking its either a intake leak or bad injector causing missfire.

Is there anything else simple I should try before I tear into this.

It hasn't thrown a random missfire code in awhile...just cyl 2.

Define "tear into". I'd start by verifying spark, and fuel.... I'm not sure how you would verify the #2 injector is firing since it's that crazy spider setup. Maybe pull the valve cover and verify the valves are opening.

I've already pulled valve cover and valves are opening correctly. Spark is there..and by there I mean I laid the plug wire on metal and watched it ark.

I was gonna tear down replace intake gaskets and #2 injector.

Did you use the plug from that cylinder or another one? We had a member recently discover that he had no gap on one of his plugs, which was of course the source of his miss-fire.

Do you have any evidence of a leaking intake gasket? I've heard of cylinders getting so much coolant inside that they won't fire.

I don't think you can replace just one injector with the spider system. I think the whole thing has to be replaced.

My 96 Z71 does the same thing .. misfire while cruising . Step on the gas petal she moves out no misfire.. new intake gaskets 3yrs ago.. and it will backfire if I plug the egr valve in . 270k miles original injectors

I did swap plugs with another one but same result.

I don't have any for sure evidence of it. I did turn on bolt I could reach on the intake and turneded it 3 rounds before it got tight lol

When I do drive it it actually smoothes out.

I know its like a 99.9 percent chance that a fuel filter would cause a miss on one cylinder but should I change it

What to prepare for before you rip into an engine???....Your checkbook!

I'm joking. I initially thought you were rebuilding it.

Probably an intermittently missing injector causing misfire.

You might think about upgrading the injection system and get rid of that poppet injection system.

If you've changed all ignition parts and have good compression then it's in the injection system you have to pull the intake to access it and you will want to upgrade to the Moro setup with new gaskets. That is unless you are wanting to upgrade to 350.
