I just ordered a set of specific interior screws, ones that can be seen in plain sight. I ended up paying over $10.00 shipping + the cost of the screws for a pack of 10 screws. Am I the only one that doesn't think logically when making purchases to redo their truck?
Aint no logic in any of this!
I have a rebuilt 1976 Olds 350.
My freind got this out of a jet boat.
We rebuilt to put it back in the boat.
Then we got rid of the boat because the plan was to stick it in a post office jeep and give it to his 16 year old niece as her first car.
So we boxed the jeep frame and built the most ridicoulas set of headers youve ever seen and bought a brand new TH350.
Had the shortest driveshaft in history made for it.
Her Mom found out and explained why giving a 16 year old a Olds 350 post office jeep was a bad idea.
She asked why we didnt just save some money by wrapping the kid around a phone pole at high speed.
So we yanked it and sold the jeep.
He needed somebody to weld the aluminum bed on a rolloff so I went over and did it and traded the work for the Olds and the trans.
Bought a flowkooler water pump and an HEI and a hi torque mini starter and a holley 650 etc...
I went online and bought a set of really cool 1970s Holley cast aluminun high rise valve covers .
Only 160 bucks with shipping.
Had plans to put it in a Cutlass
I have the entire new brake setup down to the pads and shoes for a Cutlass
I dont have the car.
That 350 has been in a bag for at least ten years.
Logic has no part too play in what we do.
Logic just sucks all of the fun out of life.

BTW when I was parting or building 400's, yeah it's common for the door sill screws to be rusty, but I had little trouble with them. They go right through the cab floor and are exposed underneath. You can hit 'em from under the truck with some Blaster or your choice. Then a small pick to clean out the screw heads so your driver gets a better bite.

Being involved in other hobbies in the past, I had a sneaking suspicion that I wasn't alone. I just wanted some validation when my wife sees some $25 door sill screws show up. I want to be able to say, "Well at least I didn't do ____________ like this other guy did!" Just kidding of course. She's a gem and doesn't give me any grief.
She got a sister?

Ya gotta tear down several junk trucks before you get a respectable spare fastener stash going.

For door sill screws, I prefer the stainless, and easy ones to find are used on the 88-93 park lamps.

Another good place to use stainless is bed bolts. McMaster-Carr has them but you need to know your thread and length. "Illogical" may be planning on pulling your bed off that many times to justify the stainless hardware. I think anyone not an auto enthusiast could find many things we do to be head scratchers.

You can get a fortune in hardware. I went so far as to figure out how to clean then apply a phosphate and oil finish to old fasteners so I would not need to buy new.

When it comes to buying anything anymore, I try not to think! It makes it so much easier.

I have a local hardware store that sells stainless, I usually just take my stuff there and match it - so far so good... keeps me from paying stupid shipping which has been nuts lately.

Oh, and another illogical purchase. Don't buy pulled parts from eBay unless the pics and description are REALLY, REALLY good! I got two sun visors in the mail yesterday and they were worse off than my sagging sun visors I have now. The auction title said, "Nice". I would define them as mediocre. They'll be going back to the seller.

I like the new coating being offered by Fastenal on the fasteners it sells, which coating I believe a lot of OEMs use on their fasteners. EcoGuard.
