Yup I heard that! Don't some engines have a brass angle fitting on the oil pressure sending unit for that reason( little to no clearance)?.
I've never seen a Vortec 454 with one in a truck. It should just be a really easy straight shot to get to it. But as my luck goes, of course it's not easy for me.

I have taken a shortcut when needing a socket to work now vs next day. Place it in a drill, then the whole thing in a vise with drill running. Then file the socket down

Yes you do. Cam position sensor wire. It's "southern engineered" all the way over to the plug on the black box. Brown wire coiled on top of the harness, blue butt splice connector at the ECM plug.

We do that up north too.

I think the brass fitting is a TBI thing.... maybe even specific to the small block. I do know they're fragile and often break if you look a them with the idea of removal.

That's about what I had heard. Luckily I didn't have to work on that part of my TBI Burb.

Got the socket turned down to 1.235" in diameter at work today. Still had to hammer on, but it did seat. Sending unit was cross threaded at a nearly 20 degree angle compared to how the new one installed. (Correctly, I might add. No degrees of variation.)

That sensor must be pretty soft. I'm glad the threads in the block were still usable. Did you have much problems getting it started?

Just the whole fishing around blind part. Managed to find the hole after a couple minutes, and took another minute or two to get it started properly. I'm just glad it worked out as well as it did.

Anyone know how to get the reluctor ring off the crank?
And will the degree difference between stock and the aftermarket timing set affect the cam/crank correlation?
If that's a risk, I may just leave the stock timing set for now.
Could I use the new chain on the old sprockets?

It just pulls off. There might be a slight difference on the main sprocket as some seem to have couple of degree difference for the cam compared to factory setup.
