I bought this 1995 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 Extended Cab Short Box 5.7L with a Starcraft conversion off of eBay last week. It's a 1 owner with 97,600 miles and a lot of the original paperwork.
For the most part it is very clean, no rust, no obvious leaks or odd noises of any kind. I flew down and drove it home 180 miles with the cruise set at 75 mph and averaged 15.1 mpg, so I can't complain mechanically.

I've replaced the hood latch lever, got a fob for the factory GM security system so I can lock/unlock, replaced a blinker indicator, and got the 12v outlet in the overhead console working. I need to refinish all of the interior wood other than what's on the overhead console. It needs new drivers door pins/bushings. The roof was repainted poorly and could use a wet sand due to some orange peel. The rubber trim along the running boards/fender flairs has shrunk and could be replaced. etc. etc. etc. Lots of minor things.

I spotted a 1991 GMC Starcraft Conversion Van for sale on Facebook last weekend and it had one of the fold-a-way license plate steps that I have been searching for, for a couple years, PLUS it had the Starcraft logo on it so I had to have it. I talked the owner into selling me the step and I figured out a way to bolt it onto the front of the K1500. Definitely unnecessary since I am 6'2", but these steps are neat and hard to come by.

A couple more pics of the fold-a-way license plate step.

If you need that, maybe you need to up your wrenching game? When the water pump blew out on my buddy's Cummins we discovered the Dodge 3/4 ton trucks have steps built into the bumper. We figured that was a bad sign, and a few weeks later when the engine blew we figured we were right to worry.

Also, if you lower your truck you don't need that.

Nah I don't need it and I'm 6'2 so no need to lower either, if anything it needs to get a little taller! I really just think it's neat and adds a custom touch to the truck, makes it mine a little, ya know?

The step is handy on my conversion van for cleaning bugs off the windshield. It would have been a handy step on my lifted 3/4 ton!

Running tires older than 10 years is risky business. I inherited my dad's truck after he passed. Three weeks after having the truck. The right rear blew out. Big bang. At 65 just before the turn off for home. The almost new looking Cooper tires had not blown but had stripped the whole length of tread off. It had whipped around bending the lower bed wheel well, small twist dent in bumper and smashing the right taillight.
My 19 year old son was riding with me, I think he almost pooped when that tread came loose and banged around. Me both hands on wheel maintain control less throttle slow stop. Get out look, tire still has air, no tread, only steel cord. First thought, " I bet that makes sparks at night". Drive 3 miles home. Thinking how much 4 new tires now.
According to the date code the tires were 14 years old. Cooper said over 10 , don't drive' em. Other manufacturers have similar guidelines. Another been there, done that.
