A fire wouldn't split a block like that. You've been lied to.
The car has definitely been fire-damaged. I’m not sure if that’s what’d have caused it to crack, hell. i’m not even sure it is a crack/weld. The corner bits could be sand burning defect or slag inclusions. Not quite sure what else I could accredit the sloppy line though. I’ll remove some paint & metal and see if it’s visibly/audibly different

Looks to me like that engine was rebuilt on a production line already.

Note the round disc stuck on the core plug. Almost certainly a temperature-sensitive "tell-tale" that melts if it gets too hot. Then the rebuilder voids the warranty because the customer overheated the engine.

For the record, ALL Gen 5/6/7 blocks are 4-bolt main. Most of the Mark IV blocks were two-bolt, though.

They are indeed heat-sensitive tabs. I painted over the freeze plugs myself, I'll post photos of the heat tabs although I don't believe they showed sign of overheating. Plan on putting new plugs in.
I'm currently looking to get this abomination inspected sonically so hopefully someone can tell me more about the structural integrity of the block. Looked all around and haven't been able to find an affordable bare-block.

As soon as I am able I'll gently file down a bit of both marks and take pictures.

How much does shipping cost from the US? They're plentiful and cheap over here, I'm sure someone would be willing to send you one.
I've been considering this yet I haven't found a bare block (I'd actually need a Gen V, I mistakenly thought it was a Mark IV). If someone is willing to sell & ship a bare-block, I'm more than willing to purchase it off of you. It'd be shipped to Rotterdam, Netherlands.
