The plates use a set screw to stay in place. Apparently you're supposed to angle the plates a bit to prevent movement. Unless the upper and lower bolts are right on the frame, you're going to see the plates angle just due to the design of this setup. Truthfully, I have also wondered about the plates sliding forward, but in all my research I can't find a single person saying that was a problem. I'm 100% open to any criticism of this setup, though.

The adjustability is my top priority, and a close second is being able to store it without taking up too much space. I hitch to a different trailer each time, with tongue weights ranging from 200 - 2000 lbs. I couldn't keep enough spring bars in my truck box to accommodate them all.

I don't typically have much of need for a WDH setup, but on my last haul I couldn't go above 55 mph without sway due to heavy winds (60mph gusts). I guess you could say this is more an insurance policy than an ideal setup. If only every trailer was a 5th wheel...

The video is a little ridiculous, but it shows how the system works.
I've used an Anderson for 7 years on our travel trailer. Love how easy it is to install/remove and how customizable it is regarding weight dist. You can really dial it in, and once its set, you dont have to adjust it again through multiple hitch/de-hitch cycles. Warranty is pretty great too. If that friction material wears out, call them and they'll ship a new one no cost.

Good to hear! Thanks for the feedback. Have you had any issues with the mounting plates moving?

I have not had any issues. If I remember correctly, I used a method suggested on one of the owner’s forums for my specific trailer, so there was some customization and a trip to the hardware store I’m sure.

I ended up ordering the Andersen setup.

I saw 80k towing miles last year. I'm hoping for at least a solid year out of this with minimal issues and maintenence.

Time will tell how the "friction cup" holds up, but at least they sell replacements for cheap.

I think that I will steal that set screw idea, to help keep my hitch bars in place.

Received in just a few days. Pretty satisfied with the build quality, and looking forward to putting it to work this week. Looks like we have some heavy winds forecasted.

I plan to only use the hitch when necessary. It should be pretty quick to hook up.

I really like how compact everything is. That's a huge benefit for my uses.

Edit: One thing I wanted to add is that the brackets are actually angled ~10° by design.

If you're towing 80k miles a year, why in God's name would you choose such a pig to do it with? I'm pretty sure the fuel savings, even with dollar per gallon, still tips in the favor of a newer, more expensive diesel at that point. Or Cummins/Dmax swap what you have. I bet I tow around 3000 miles a year on a normal year. Then another couple thousand for camping, but that's on the high end.
