Could they do it thru a phone screen?Get it computer matched. Most higher end paint systems have the camera capabilities. The name of the color is unimportant when mixing paint.

no, the camera they use is actually called a photo spectrometer or something like that. It's a highly specialized piece of equipment backed by the computer programming that analyzes the colors and compares them to the toners in the mixing system to produce a formula to mix the actual color.Could they do it thru a phone screen?
There's a painter in the house!no, the camera they use is actually called a photo spectrometer or something like that. There's more to it then to call it teal. I've used the camera and mixed tons of auto paint and that color might have half a dozen different toners in that comprise that color. Blue , green, maybe violet, pearl, aluminum flake, black, maybe some others, etc.
It helps to know what brand of paint was used as well as not not all paint systems have the same exact toners to get the same place and best you can hope for is a blendable match.
LOL, I painted for 12 years before getting into the collision end of things. Vinyl dye is painted vinyl. lol It works ok on non-wear stuff, and some paint systems are set up to mix it as well. I prefered to mix out of the system as that gave me the ability to do some tinting. Painted my fare share of interior stuff for an upholstery shop/guy.There's a painter in the house!
I've had more than a few guys come to my shop & want me to do an interior color-matched to the already painted exterior.
Doesn't work that way. I'm not the one that gets to mix the dyes for any & every fabric, vinyl or leather within the interior.
Limited by the available choices.
But...The paint guys can match the outside to whatever choice is made for the inside. The spectrometer.
Dyes fall into that mixology thing too.
(But there's limitations as to what can be dyed.)
Yea. Don't mix brands.
Big stress. Customer's car! = High Anxiety.

Dye was explained to me by an SEM rep. to be more towards a 'stain' then 'paint' due to the way that, when done right, (good prep!) dye will soak right into & become part of the substrate as opposed to sitting on top like paint.LOL, I painted for 12 years before getting into the collision end of things. A stain has not been my experience. Not in the same sense that leather dye or Rit dye is. It will wear off the top of a door pad or seat and expose the original color. Scratch it same thing. If there are some penetrating qualities to it I think it's minimal.Dye was explained to me by an SEM rep. to be more towards a 'stain' then 'paint' due to the way that, when done right, (good prep!) dye will soak right into & become part of the substrate as opposed to sitting on top like paint.
An upholstery guy that didn't do his own dying? That could be either due to time constraints, lack of space or lack of knowledge.
I actually enjoy that aspect.
So it’s not a bright teal metallic? He’s is a aqua ?That is Stangkillrs ZL1500. It is 100% original paint. And for the life of me I can not remember what the paint code is.
