Just a little input from me, i have a c3500 i just put a set of pacesetters on, long tubes being that. They both came with the O2 sensor bungs as well as the EGR port.

Also, what’s everyone doing for exhaust system routing with long tubes? Anyone have pictures of what they did?

Heres a video of the new exhaust

Hello everyone. 1990 K1500 6 inch lift 5.7 automatic. I’m wanting to install long tube headers and dual shorty exhaust and I’m thinking dual glass packs. Anyone have any good advice or what they might have done?
I put Flowtech headers on my 94’ K1500 they use a y-pipe and it’s single exhaust. I would not use glasspack mufflers. I had them on a 71 Ford F100 with a 302 and it was so loud I couldn’t hear myself think.

Long tube headers are not available for 4x4 GMT 400 trucks, BC the transfer case is in the way of the passengers side header. So your only choices are, make a set of long tube headers, ( or have it done for you) and then I'm not sure there is enough clearance to run that on the passengers side, no mater what you do, or run a set of shorty headers. Shorty's are grate for low end torque. That's where they perform. Once the RPMs build, long tube headers are much better. I never heard of shorty exhaust. Are you talking about turn downs? As for the 9ld school glass packs, I have a set on my 2wd with a set of Summit shorty's, and I love it. I get a lot of compliments on how my truck sounds. My GP mufflers are 24 inch long thrush brand mufflers. I also gutted my cat's, and I have true dual exhaust out the back, with a set of SST tips that I built.
They are available for 4x4’s.. I have a set thatre going on my 98 k1500.. just have to have the exhaust go under the tail of the tcase or over the tcase if you have a body lift.

Long tubes on an IFS 4x4? No such beast. They interfere with the front diff, front driveshaft, fuel line crossover on the tranny, shifter linkage, crossmember, and fuel tank

Run shorties, and refab the y-pipe into dual passenger side pipes.
There is such thing for a 1500. I have a set of long tube hooker headers that’re going in my 98 k1500 this week

That is not true. I have a set of Patriot long tube headers on my son's 1997 K1500. Everything works just fine and the headers were made for the truck. It took a creative welder to do the exhaust but I even have cat's installed, crossover and dual mufflers. I had it all done last month.

Your talking about custom fabrication work. I'm talking about why the header manufacturers don't sale a set for 4x4 GMT 400 trucks. These are 2 totally different things. I am a fabricator. Have been for many years. I can do, have done and and still do a lot of custom things that many other people can not, and I have don't these things for many years, and still do on a Daley basis. But, not everyone can do custom fab work.
I spent a lot of time researching the right set for my truck as the freight to get them down here to New Zealand was as much as the headers cost so I couldn't just send them back if they didn't fit. The most common problem that I came across fitment wise was realising that the enginges on the 4x4s are offset to the passenger side by quite a bit so if the headers weren't designed to allow for this then there were definately going to be fitment issues. As it was with the longer tubes I had to do a sharp 90 degree bend out of the drivers side collector to cross over and run paralell to the passenger side pipe before entering into the muffler and then ran it out the side in front of the rear wheel. I made sure that the pipe passing under the trans pan could be easily removed for servicing the trans.

Here’s some proof you can put long tubes on an ifs truck. These are hooker competition long tubes and 2.5” true duals. (My front diff is currently out) but I see no reason as to why these would interfere with the 4x4. They clear where the front diff would be located along with where the driveshaft goes

I have a 97 K1500... 383 Stroker and Hooker long tube headers and all mandrel bent true dual 3" exhaust. No install issues, fit just fine. When I originally built this thing all kinds of miss information about not being able to install these things. They fit great, if you have weak engine mounts, the passenger side header will hit the cab. I am in the process of swapping a built 6.0L in it now. I suppose I will probably find the same miss information about not being able to do long tube headers on that also. We shall see.
