On my 98 that driving on ice feeling just went away, I never unplugged it and I actually bought a sensor for the column but never installed it as it seems fine. Could use a rag joint though.

I have a friend who had a CEL that pointed to a problem with the wheel sensors. Turns out the cable near the wheel had been unsupported and the conductors were worn through. It was an easy fix with new conductors, soldering tools, heatshrink, and a heat gun with some tie wraps to support it properly.

Anything that has ABS, newer than RWAL. So...93 and newer?

I suppose some of the most heavy-duty GMT400 vehicles may not have had ABS, and RWAL uses the vehicle speed sensor; no need for sensors on the front wheels since they're not involved in Rear Wheel Anti-Lock.

Is the speed sensor not on the transmission? And if so, some monitoring of front wheel speed is required as a reference to identify locking at the rear axle?

ABS doesn't lock up the rear brakes. It pulsates the front calipers to prevent them from locking up.

Front rotors have a reluctor ring for the ABS sensors on the years of trucks so equipped.

On the trans for 2WD, on the transfer case for 4WD. Same sensor drives the speedometer, and supplies signal to the cruise control, RWAL, ECM, etc. The sensor signal is filtered by the instrument cluster before going to the other accessories, on my '88.

And if so, some monitoring of front wheel speed is required as a reference to identify locking at the rear axle?
No. The only speed sensor for RWAL is the VSS in the trans/transfer case.

The front wheels got speed sensors when the anti-lock went to three-channel (LF, RF, Rear) instead of one-channel (Rear).

RWAL pulses only the rear wheels to prevent lock-up. The fronts can still lock--there's no anti-lock function on the fronts. RWAL is disabled when the transfer case is in 4WD.

The three-channel or four-channel units can pulse any one or a combination of the channels to prevent lock-up.

Lots of discussions about the EVO on the forum.
GM figured out that the system was problematic.
So much so, they don't even sell parts for it.
Instead, when it comes to the EVO, all that GM offers is the elimination kit.

When my '97 first began do that 'momentarily-on-ice' thing, I just unplugged the EVO sensor on the lower column.
That worked for a while, but doing so puts the pump into full boost mode all the time.
3-4 months later, it catastrophically failed, puking fluid out of every possible connection. Luckily, it blew up in my driveway.
For the repair, I just used a pre-EVO high pressure line.
I liked the idea of that as opposed to the elimination kit because the kit adds an additional union.
After going through the hassle of the S/pump re-n-re, I really didn't want to do it all over again due to that union possibly leaking.

Some have had a CEL appear after the EVO elimination.
My '97 was done for about 8 or 9 years with no CEL.
What is the Cel? My pump just blew throwing fluid everywhere and after days of getting pump after pump and then here then after almost pulling out my hair I went to a dismantler and found a pump from there but now before I'm getting ready to install it I'm reading these forms about how the problematic and I'm wondering what I should do should I install the new Evo or how do I retrofit it so I don't have this issue I am kind of at a loss and kind of don't have any help from anybody from where I live and so I'm not understanding what to do or how to fix this issue please someone help also I'm not very mechanically inclined so please we can play English cuz I'm kind of not too smart when it comes to vehicles
