There you go being all reasonable and knowledgeable n chit. You sound like my wife the Dreamkiller....
Well, my day job is managing engine parts for the Air Force. You can call me a dream killer, but my job is preventing heartache. I won't tell you NOT to buy that truck, but I'll brief you on why it's a bad idea.

I'm not gonna complain, I got a good one. She indulges most of my stupid ideas, and I got a bunch of toys. I just like to call her the fun police or the dream killer, but really she's the Minister of Finance. She holds it together!
Mine is also the Minister of Finance. But also indulges my hobby, so I am able to get parts when I need them.

Well, my day job is managing engine parts for the Air Force. You can call me a dream killer, but my job is preventing heartache.
When I was arguing with the insurance Co. over my '97's value, they asked me several times why I didn't have a record of all the work done to my truck.
"I do the majority of the work done on my vehicles."
"How do you justify your appraiser's evaluation if there's no record of what you are claiming? How can you prove the value?
How do you know it's done right? Are you a 'certified' mechanic?"
"No. But, I am an A.M.E. Specifically, for Biz-Jets along with various other fixed-wing corporate & private aircraft."
"So...? That's aircraft. Not autos."
True. But in my trade, 'close enough' is not 'good enough'. If it's not right...it's wrong. Period. Perfection not an option. It's the standard. If myself or any other A.M.E. is not hitting that level of job performance each time, every time, people start to fall out of the sky.
If my work was found to be at fault and resulted in personal harm or death, stupid-rich CEOs, entertainment moguls &/or rock stars with a whole raft of lawyers standing in their wake, would own my ass till the day I kick.
...and that's only after the F.A.A., the D.O.T. & the N.T.S.B. all get their run at me first.
That mind-set transfers to my own personal vehicles."
Trying to beat that into the brains of the various pencil-pushing, tin-foil-encrusted-cubicle dwelling, (with matching hat!) vehicle stupid, common-sense lacking desk drivers in cheap suits & sensible shoes, was an exercise in futility.
