Hey there,
I’ve recently been experiencing a lot of hesitation with my truck. It’s a 1994 gmc c1500 with the 5.7. When I take off in the morning for school it loves to stall on me and for some reason my “check gauges” light turns on when it does. I’ve already changed the tps, Iac, O2, egr valve and solenoid, ignition coil, fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and coolant temp sensor. I’m already out of ideas of what it could be. I’ve read forums and asked many mechanics I know for help but they can’t seem to know why it is. I haven’t been able to check my fuel pressure or my injectors. If anyone could lead me n the right direction I’d truly appreciate it.

how many miles? was it running fine until this happened, any other relevant history to help with diagnois?

if the check engine light is coming on, what is the code(s)?
codes can also be set without the check engine light coming on.

fuel pressure check sounds like a good idea, report back.

It has 246,000 miles. I’ve owned it for about 3 years now and Its never been this bad. The check engine light doesn’t come on, but when it stall out the Check gauges light comes on. Im going to have to borrow my friends reader to see if there are any. I’m going to check my pressure hopefully this weekend.

Your "Check Gauges" light comes on because the engine is stalled with the key in run. You can reproduce this in your driveway by turning the key to "run". It's a dummy light to tell you you have no oil pressure, which you dont, because the engine isnt running.

Thank you for that man, I needed to know what that meant.

Passenger side, on the back side of the cylinder head.

Also, check for vacuum leaks, especially if it runs good cold, and then dies once it warms up.

UPDATE: I took my truck to a shop 2 weeks ago and I got my problem fixed. It turns out I needed a new distributor and a retiming. My truck takes off like there’s no tomorrow now. The only issue I have now is that i have idle surges and the exhaust note sounds a little off, but I’ll figure it out. Thanks to everyone who suggested things for me to do. I truly appreciate y’all.
