Pioneer X6600BT
The Pioneer X6600BT is discontinued, and while I liked the Pioneers I had back in the day, they tend to fall afoul of the tiny buttons and stupid controls requirement.

Thank you all for the inputs! the Kenwood KMM-BT328U has been ordered - $120 shipped and it should be here tomorrow. I did very briefly consider the Kenwood KDC-X304, but the CD player isn't quite worth an additional $50 to me.

I can't remember the model # but I have a Kenwood with CD in my pickup and my Van. I made a point of buying identical radios so I would only have to learn how to operate just one. It checks all the boxes except the backup cam and I have another plan for that. I have been very happy with it. I just soldered the leads from the Kenwood connector onto the factory harness and it plugs right in. Good luck!

Cool Beanz, Send some pics once it's installed, we all want to see how it comes out. Best of luck.

Rest assured, when it gets installed it'll be shown in my build thread. https://www.gmt400.com/threads/89-stepside-way-cool-jr.46961/
I've been wanting to replace the factory radio but hated the look of the extended faceplate sticking out a couple inches. Good to know there are these shallow units now!!! It does look MUCH better. The stereos that fit the factory location are stupid expensive so they are out.

What is the recommendation for a decent speaker that won't break the bank and fit the factory locations? I'm not keen on cutting up the doors at this point to add speakers there.

Thanks for doing some leg work for me!

Ken

If you click the link you'll see that I put a Kenwood KMM-BT328U in WCJr.

Now that I'm putting Roscoe back together, I'm investing in a better setup. I have the Metra double-DIN dash kit and a pair of Infinity Reference 4x6s. My wife "got them for me for Christmas", which basically meant that she asked me to order what I wanted. When more money comes around I'll invest in a set of Q-Logic kick panels for the Infinity 6.5" and tweeter combo that were in my RX-7. I also have a 12" Infinity sub that I'll need to make a box for.

I still haven't decided what I want for a head unit, but I'd like to find something with a big display for a backup camera, but also buttons/knobs for the basic controls instead of using a touchscreen.
