Went ahead and replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses and bypass hose. Ended up having to pull the battery tray to get to the lower hose clamp at the radiator. Should have snapped a pic but the tray was almost rusted through. Quick trip to the LKQ and picked up one that was solid. I was surprised that most trucks I went to had trays that were rusted like mine. Lucked out and stumbled on one with a driver side tray also so I pulled it while I was there just in case. Got it back together and we are holding our coolant!

Their power window motors aren't anything to write home about either.
Hm. Probably going to jinx myself but, I have owned 11 gmt400 trucks over the years (currently own 3) and I have never replaced a window motor or regulator. Had 1 bad drivers side switch and that was it. Suppose I’ll just consider myself lucky so far

Folks I was a teenager in 90s. Always loved a 2 Door and finally got my first in 2003. Growing up there was another that would always, no exception, make me stop whatever I was doing and watch it pass. Something about a long roof and eight lugs........ Once my 2 Door got to a good spot I began the search. Stumbled on this jewel and scooped it up. Now it has been a year plus and because of work I have had next to no time to spend on it. Hopefully that is going to get better....... Here it is 1999 GMC K2500 Suburban SLT, 454, 4.10, G80, 14 bolt FF rear

Very nice! My daily driver is a ‘99 Chevy K2500 Suburban LS, 112k miles (at time of post), 7.4 Vortec, 4.10s, 4L80E. I have dumped a lot of money into it (too many things to list) to keep it running to 400k+ miles.

In the late ‘90s, my dad had a ‘97 Chevy Tahoe, and since my dad’s name is Monte, my friends called the Tahoe “The Monte.” When I bought my ‘99 Suburban in 2019, my friends said since it is bigger than the Tahoe, my Suburban is “The Full Monte.” If you couldn’t tell, my friends are gear heads and also think they are stand up comedians.

So after the coolant system was shored up I drove the truck about 70 miles round trip. What I took away from that trip was the burb was going to need all the ball joints, bushings, shocks, steering, braked.... well everything really. So I parked it back in the same spot six or so months ago. Summer was busy but they gave me time to think. I like the burb but dreaded the work and money required to replace everything. Considered selling it but with what I have invested in getting the L29 going I am practically "underwater". Thought long about trying to sell at a loss but everytime I look at it I cant bring myself to do it.

Decided yesterday that today was the day to start working. Cleaned up a spot in the shop. Went to go pull it in and.........dead battery. Great! Took a minute but we made it inside.

Planning on simply replacing rear spring bushing and shock, I started in the rear. Pullled the driver rear tire first and................. Brand new shoes! AND.........leaking wheel cylinder and grease seal. Great. To be continued......

Well one thing led to another and a few hours later this is how it looked. Time to get on RockAuto. Anybody have a current discount code? This burb came apart relatively easy. I was shocked at the lack of any corrosion on the spring/control arm bolts. With the age and miles I expected more to be stuck but not the case. The only bolts requiring a bar were the rear end U bolts.

WCJr had nearly-new shoes on back when I got it, and the wheel cylinders leaked all over them. I scrubbed them clean with rubbing alcohol and they've been just fine ever since.

The bushings in the lower control arms practically fell out. The lower ball joints looked like this and easily had 3/16" of play in all directions. Talk about unsafe......... . Based on the mileage and other trucks I have seen; kinda surprised to see them in this bad shape. Had the stock 245 tires on it but fair to assume it has spent a good amount of time off the pavement.
