IMO, that sounds like, ring and pinion wine. Just a bad matched set of gears. Your pattern looks grate. The specs are spot on, there isn't much else it can be. I ran a set of Summit Racing brand gears. Zero noise what so ever. Maybe you can get a refund, and get another brand of gears. Usually bearings give off more of a roar noise, but it's hard to tell for sure from a video. When you changed all of the bearings, you did change out the races also rite?

Yeah. New races. I got a package deal from Quick Performance in Iowa. Carrier,R&P and bearing kit. 500.00. I talked to a couple of guys when I first started on it. One at Yukon and one at Q Performance but they just kind of drift away and don't reply. Noisy gear sets happen I guess. Duragrip carrier is probably about 275, gears 150 and the bearing kit the balance. But you hear it most touching the gas. I did hear it some slowing down. That's ring and pinion related like you said.

I was going to say that it the whine came on coast only, but it's really hard to tell. In any case, I also would agree it's not bearings.

Sorry to hear about your problems. What are your options now? Change the ring and pinion set with a different one?

And, you know, it may quite down some after the gears break in in 500 miles. I was kind of surprised to see how much metal shavings there was, when I pulled the cover off at 500 miles. I did have issues with the pinion seal leaking. It was slight, and trailing, so it looked like it was the cover leaking. I pulled the cover 3 or 4 times and resealed it before I figured out it was the pinion seal. So glad I used a crush sleeve eliminator kit. Anyway, point is, each time I pulled the cover off, there was less metal shavings in the differential housing. It does take time and usage for the gears to set in.

I'm gonna call them and let them know it's got a whine I can't get rid of. He may tell me to run it some more and see if it gets better. I don't have a problem with that. I've taken it apart four times, there's only been some very fine stuff on the magnet each time. If they'll do me swap I'll see if I can pay the difference and upgrade. I've read somewhere the US Standard gears were Yukon's rejects. I don't know if it's true. But it was on the internet,so it's gotta be true. Right? It starts at about 30 and I got on the expressway a while ago and it gets past the whirr to a whine. I like that I went with the CSE this time but I'll have to do all the s*** again with a new gear set. I see why everybody and their mama don't set up rear ends. It's a good thing it wasn't my DD. I'd have been screwed. But I'm tired of taking the SOB apart. And buying damn brake cleaner. PB Blaster brake cleaner is weak.
I wonder why new vehicles don't require break in periods. I guess their stuff is all cut and dry without any variables.
Now I gotta put a transaxle in my John Deere L120. I changed oil in it four years ago and it helped. Did it again this past spring but it's shot. Got a new one for 600. They fill them with 10w30 at the factory cause it's cheap. When the cheap oil quits lubricating it scores the cylinders in the pumps. Do a drain and refill they recommend synthetic 5w50.
So I'm draining it and start it off with the good sh.. doo doo.
But that's a different forum. This is already too damn long. I'll holler back. Kenny, go weld something.

A lot of gear sets are noisy is my understanding. Most recently was working with a ford 9" and recommendation was to find oem gear sets. I ignored that recommendation and hoped to get lucky. Will be a while before I find out( very slow moving project)

I've been taking my time on this since Thanksgiving. I'm curious what Thornton Chevrolet wants for a set. I can get a good discount but I guarantee you it will still hurt your feelings.

I'm back. I finally got hold of somebody at Quick Performance and sent him pictures of the patterns and video and he called me back in 5 minutes and he said patterns were great. He said he was sending me"the black box" which is gear set made by Motive that sells for about 300.00. The US Standard gear set that came originally and have been a PITA is 100.00. So the first of next week I will get to take it apart again Excuse my enthusiasm. I'll actually be happy to do it if it's gonna fix it. So I will hopefully let y'all know all is well next week and you won't have to deal with my ramblings.

Well, I got delayed by other BS but I finally got back on it last week.
What's his name,(makes me mad I can't remember his name)at Quick Performance knew I'd been working on this thing a while. He sent me the replacement gear set 2nd day air. I wasn't expecting that. A friend of mine, when I told him they were sending me a new set, asked me if I was take it to one of the two guys he suggested at the beginning of this ordeal and be done with it. I told him hell naw, as much time and money I have put into it and the gear set I've been fighting was the problem all along, I'm gon finally be able to see it done.
But I did finally get it back together this evening. Ran it on the jack stands a couple minutes, no whine. Ran it on the short trip , then cool down while I ate that fat free #3 at McDonald's. Runs quiet as a mouse pissing on cotton as Ms. Bea at the Home Depot register said one time. She said tee teeing and said if you were at home you'd have said pissing wouldn't you?
You can look at the bad set and you'd think they were good.
But it's a done deal now. Do the break in and change the dope.
I gotta find my next can of worms. Thanks for listening to my rambling.
I'm about to get some dogs barking when I roll my trash cans to the end of the driveway. Every Sunday night.
