#1 Communication is key, my wife even today can't stand when I don't communicate with her on anything

I tried to be in the Louisiana Army National Guard but that didn't work out. After that I went to college I have a degree in broadcasting, good education but I have never EVER had a job in broadcasting. If you do choose college, get a degree you know for a fact you will use. My job is on the Twin Ports of MN/WI, for an oil company. I get paid to sit around on a computer and do basically nothing, and not broadcasting anything.

Don't be afraid to admit defeat on somethings that arent working out, I pulled out of the National Guard because it wasn't for me. Same goes for projects; if it clearly is turning to the money pit, dont make it fly into said pit.

Just so you know, you had it good growing up with a S10 with a small block v8. I have a S10 Blazer xTreme with the 4.3 :burnout:

Well, the small block swap was our project. My first vehicle was a 2000 s10 with the 2.2. We put the body cladding from a bravada on it and that thing was sweet. And I currently have a 97 s10 with the 2.2/5speed. I just think they are sweet little pickups. My 94 k1500 is a little too expensive to daily now that gas is 4 bucks a gallon here In the magnolia state.
Me and the old man had a lot of good times in the 91 s10 though. Hell I took it to prom and peeled out of my high school graduation in it! Dad told me to give er hell!!!

got my applications in and waiting for an acceptance letter. Found a box to take...it's a bit big but where in the hell else will I find another one like this for $500? Gives me plenty of room to grow as well! I was discussing the dilemma with my schedule and school and he's just like oh, here I'll sell you a starter box for 500... so now my wallet weighs a bit less but at least I have a box that dint break the bank since it's a mostly Hands on, in the shop course that requires a box and your own tools

Nice! I have that same bottom box - I bought mine 25 years ago new for $300ish. I have end boxes on either side, but an open top for work space. I like those tall end cabinets.

To your point, a non-technical undergrad college degree is more an indicator to a prospective employer that you are capable of following directions and completing tasks than it's anything else.

Got accepted today!
Besides the basics, what tools do you guys recommend. My preferred brands are gearwrench, Dewalt, knipex, fluke, and other middle/ upper brands. Not planning for debt to the tool trucks right now
Eyes on the prize from this day forward. It's gonna be difficult at times, you are gonna want to quit, you will second guess yourself, doubt yourself, etc.
Keep pushing ahead. Look forward to the feeling of accomplishment that comes from completing a difficult task.
Stay in contact with us, we're all pulling for you!

When we sent our son to Wyotech in Laramie WY they had a program where you can buy Snappy tools for 1/2 off. They had a "starter" kit for ~$3000 IIRC which had most everything you needed for the class and beginning in an entry level. Check it out at you school.
