Wow, I never knew those were being produced... I always thought it would be cool to turbo the V6 in my red truck.

Hypothetically are the stock '96-'97 black box PCMs capable of being tuned for forced induction using appropriate software like JET DST? I would assume so, but I have zero tuning knowledge/experience. I know WynJammer did it somehow for their supercharger kits that fit these trucks.

Hey everyone, just thought I’d ask for some opinions… I have a 97 reg cab short bed, with a 4.3 and nv3500. She’s a little rough, I spent 2 years slowly going through it to make it a somewhat reliable daily. Eventually I am wanting to start rebuilding it with more of a resto mod outlook. I’m torn because it’s hard to argue with a LS swap because of what you can get for the money, and it really isn’t too big of an undertaking… but EVERYONE does it...

You know, I was caught up in that dilemma for a little while. What got me over it was thinking to myself, "What if I didn't concern myself with what everyone else is doing? What if I took that out of the equation?" So if that's all that is standing in your way of doing an LS swap or whatever the case may be, do it. At the end of the day, it is your vehicle. WTF are bragging rights and how do those help to pay the mortgage?

Does anyone here have any experience building race motors? I’ve been doing a little research on big bore short stroke engines for high rev engines for road course and stuff. Is this feasible for the LS in a somewhat affordable manner?

I think all LS motors are over bore. For cheap high rev action the 4.8 is what you want. The LS7 has a 7k rpm redline, but I read it was designed for 8k and then dialed it back for longevity.

People do LS swaps for a reason. They make sense financially and the rewards for power are there. I wouldn’t worry about what other people think. I would worry about trying to make some thing unique and then hating it later. Just because something as possible does not make it a good idea.

The LS swap is just the most cost effective swap out there. They're cheap, parts are cheap, etc.

If you really want to be unique, keep the V6 LOL.
The last fuel pump I priced for a 5.3L Vortec was almost $300 shipped. I'm glad you think that that's cheap.

Fuel pump for my 88 stock V6 RCSB is $86 shipped. LoL that's more like it.
